GPT-6.1 Sol and Terra are a large language model family (LLM) released by OpenAI on September 29, 2026.
GPT-6.1 Sol was released on September 29, 2026, during OpenAI's DevDay event. Some[who?] expected that GPT-6.1 Astra would also be announced that day, but the announcement was reportedly canceled due to alignment issues.
GPT-6.1 Terra was released on October 26, 2026.
On October 28, 2026, Days following the launch of GPT 6.1 Terra, Pankaj Kumar from X (formerly Twitter) posted that the prototype of GPT-6.1 Luna was available only on Arena.ai as "Fe-pichu", meaning "Allocation - Granting" in Chinese. The GPT-6.1 Luna prototype will be capable granting allocation across all of its current language models. It uses OpenAI's tokenizer, which makes it more likely to be an OpenAI model.
Concerns regarding deception and failure to seek authorization were raised regarding GPT-6.1 Astra by some who had used it. In statements to the press following the publication of these concerns, OpenAI head of safety systems Saachi Jain stated GPT-6.1 Astra "didn’t quite meet the bar" in regard to safety.
