The result was redirect to Joan Didion#Personal life. !Voters are unanimous that a stand-alone article is not warranted, but her mother's article seems to be the best redirect target, interested readers can pick up the trail to the books from there. • Merge with The Year of Magical Thinking. She is not notable just for being the child of notable people. If she is talked about in that book (as the article says), then it would not be unreasonable to talk about her in the article. If she is notable for a reason outside being talked about in the book (and being child of notable people) I'd be inclined to !vote differently, but I don't see any evidence otherwise. • If all we can write about her is "had famous parents, one of whom wrote a memoir which included some content about her but wasn't fundamentally about her per se", and if there isn't a single content category that we can actually file her in besides her birth and death years, then the place to discuss her is in the book's article and not in a standalone biography. Redirect back to the book (or to Blue Nights, which is more directly about her.) to Joan Didion per Tokyogirl's reasoning. Bearcat (talk) 03:30, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
• Redirect per above to either Year of Magical Thinking (the book about the death of Didion's husband that details her illness), Blue Nights (the book about her death), or to Joan_Didion#Personal_life. Her story is heartbreaking, but ultimately she just isn't notable outside of the book and her relation to famous persons. • The problem is that both books talk about her pretty heavily for the most part. (Disclaimer: I haven't read the second book, although I am familiar-ish with it.) I've read the first book and while the main focus of the book is on Didion's grieving process, her daughter does play a pretty central role. The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards redirecting to Didion's article. It'd make more sense for this to redirect to the person since that'd be where a lot of people would expect it to redirect and then we can always make a mention of both books in the personal life section. • I've added in a quick 1 line mention of Blue Nights, so this would be a bit better of a redirect. Like I said, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense to redirect Quintana's article to the personal life section of her mother's article as opposed to one of the books, especially since she's pretty heavily featured in both books. • Redirect to The Year of Magical Thinking or Blue Nights. While the latter book discusses her death, she has less of a presence than in The Year of Magical Thinking which is the more acclaimed and well-known literary work. Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 10:46, 19 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
