The result was keep. The delete !voters were ignoring WP:GNG as a guideline, making keep arguments stronger. (non-admin closure) Jovanmilic97 (talk) 10:24, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

Subject not sufficiently notable as does not meet WP:NBASKETBALL or WP:GNG Lakers321 (talk) 06:46, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- Keep Meets WP:GNG with significant coverage in multiple, independent sources. I added more sources to the article, which combined with the existing ones demonstrates satisties GNG.—Bagumba (talk) 09:50, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

- Keep: he doesn't meet WP:NBASKETBALL but WP:GNG supersedes subject-specific notability guidelines and the article cites enough significant coverage in independent, reliable sources to meet the latter. However, I would be inclined to open a requested move to change from his nickname as it appears that the majority of sources refer to him by his first name, but that's an aside. - Delete. WP:Too soon. High school sports is just not enough. Rmhermen (talk) 20:29, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Rmhermen: The essay Too soon applies to cases where significant coverage doesnt exist yet. Two so far have said that GNG is met. Please discuss the sources. Unless this is an WP:IAR !vote? Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 21:33, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- comment Looks like typical coverage for a highly sought after high school athlete. I don't know if that's enough to meet WP:GNG, which is the only notability standard he might meet.Sandals1 (talk) 18:42, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
- Delete if the notability is in basketball, than the person needs to at least meet the basketball notability guidelines.John Pack Lambert (talk) 01:49, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- You are wrong. The broader sports SNG WP:NSPORTS clearly states:
Failing to meet the criteria in this guideline means that notability will need to be established in other ways (e.g. the general notability guideline, or other, topic-specific, notability guidelines).

- You are wrong. The broader sports SNG WP:NSPORTS clearly states:
- Comment Rocket Watts is shown to be like any other high school athlete that has a specific amount of coverage, that really isn't enough to meet WP:GNG, it's a bit too soon for this article to be created as of now. Lakers321 (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lakers321 (talk 02:14, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- Please specify your minimum threshold for "specific amount of coverage" required. Otherwise, the concern is that your nomination is really an WP:IDONTLIKEIT for articles on high school athletes.—Bagumba (talk) 02:25, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- I am not sure what this comment means. Watts certainly has more coverage than the vast majority of high school basketball players, most of whom have nothing to even have a notability discussion about. If the issue is that his coverage is "like any other high school athlete that has a specific amount of coverage," well, those few high school players with the specific amount of coverage that Watts has likely do meet GNG. Rlendog (talk) 18:58, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- Keep per GNG, which trumps NSPORTS. Rlendog (talk) 18:55, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

- Keep. We have a stricter standard of notability for high school athletes per WP:NHSPHSATH. However, Watts passes that stricter standard. The coverage includes non-WP:ROUTINE articles specifically about Watts from a variety of independent sources, including ESPN.com, Mlive.com, Detroit Free Press, The Detroit Free Press, and more. - Keep. Meets WP:GNG. Coverage is there, and it's significant. Ejgreen77 (talk) 00:17, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
