- The result of the discussion was: rename and merge. Courcelles (talk) 05:48, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- Propose renaming:
- Category:Arkansas State Indians men's basketball coaches to Category:Arkansas State Red Wolves men's basketball coaches
- Category:Arkansas State Indians football bowl games to Category:Arkansas State Red Wolves football bowl games
- ...and merging:
- Nominator's rationale: Arkansas State University changed its nickname from "Indians" to "Red Wolves" in 2008, as per this source among others. Also see the athletic department's website. Strikehold (talk) 23:33, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support -- For alumni categories, alumni of a college that amalgamated or was renamed are treated as alumni of the successor. The problem here is similar. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:20, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Category:Santiago

- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Santiago, Chile. Consensus here was in agreement that the current name of the category was ambiguous, but did not agree on the proposed rename. — ξxplicit 00:28, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Santiago to Category:Santiago (city), Chile
- Nominator's rationale: Santiago needs dismabiguation, both for the kind of place it is and its location. Am willing to speedy rename sub-cats piecemeal should this nom. succeed. Mayumashu (talk) 19:12, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose
current category matches article name. MilborneOne (talk) 19:52, 25 June 2010 (UTC) - Rename to Category:Santiago, Chile to match head article Santiago, Chile. The current category name does not match the article name (MilborneOne seems not to have checked), and it is ambiguous: we also have Category:Santiago de Cuba and Category:Santiago, Cape Verde, so there is plenty of scope for confusion. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:10, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Comment that's ambiguous, there's the commune, the conurbation, and the province. 76.66.195.196 (talk) 20:58, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose Per MilborneOne. Lugnuts (talk) 09:29, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- Lugnuts, did you notice that MilborneOne is wrong, and that the current category name does not actually match the article name? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:51, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry I did get it wrong, support rename as per article Category:Santiago, Chile and BrownHairedGirl suggestions. Apologies I though I had checked. MilborneOne (talk) 15:39, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- Rename to Category:Santiago, Chile to match main article Santiago, Chile. This is unabmiguous. I do not think we need to worry about the disticntion between the city and province. If necessary we could provide the province with a separate category. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:23, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- Comment As the anon contributor mentioned, 'Santiago, Chile' while good as an article page name per WP:Commonname is still too ambiguous a choice as a category name. Category names should only article names when there isn t an issue of ambiguity. Mayumashu (talk) 02:02, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename. — ξxplicit 00:28, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Power stations in the West Midlands to Category:Power stations in the West Midlands (region)
- Nominator's rationale: Rename to clarify that its scope is the West Midlands (region) rather than the West Midlands (county), adding the "(region)" disambiguator per convention of Category:West Midlands (region). BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 18:04, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support as per nom. MilborneOne (talk) 19:53, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support I have checked the list. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:29, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support as per nom and per User:Peterkingiron's (double?) check. Utterly ambiguous as it has been named. Mayumashu (talk) 02:05, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

West Midlands (county)

- The result of the discussion was: rename all. — ξxplicit 00:28, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- Propose renaming:
48 categories: foo West Midlands → foo West Midlands (county) |
---|
|
- Nominator's rationale: Rename. England has a county and a region which share the same name, leading to lots of scope for confusion. The parent categories are logically named:
- Most of the sub-cats of the region use the "(region)" disambiguator, and the others are tagged for renaming, but most of the sub-cats of Category:West Midlands (county) do not use the disambiguator. This mass renaming adds the disambiguator to all (or I hope all!) of the sub-cats, for consistency and for clarity. The current ambiguity leads to good-faith editors making the reasonable mistake of thinking these ambiguously named category refer to the region, hence the need for corrections like these: [1], [2].
- I have checked that all these categories do indeed apply to the county rather than to the region, and have disambiguated some categs such as Category:Local government in the West Midlands. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:27, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- WikiProject West Midlands has been notified. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:28, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support -- I am relying on your statemetn that you have checked for and dealt with any miscategorised items. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:27, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- I won't swear to Bob that I have caught every single miscategorisation, but I spent several hours checking these categories and I think I have got all of them. I'm only human, so I may perhaps have missed one or two :( --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:39, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Double (band) songs. Courcelles (talk) 05:50, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Double songs to Category:Doublé songs
- Nominator's rationale: Per Double (band)/Doublé. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 15:37, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Comment I don t get this one - the article page name doesn t use the acute accent mark. If the article page is wrongly named, it should be changed first. Mayumashu (talk) 02:08, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- The article was moved to Double (band). Vegaswikian (talk) 00:14, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: merge. — ξxplicit 00:28, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Cantonments and military bases of Pakistan into Category:Military facilities of Pakistan.
- Nominator's rationale: The former is redundant and both are categorised under Category:Military facilities by country.

- Propose renaming Category:Ogg files to Category:Multimedia files
- Nominator's rationale: Ogg is not a well known file extension. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 09:04, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose the only thing in the category is OGG files, there are no images, no videos, no animated GIFs, etc. 76.66.195.196 (talk) 04:17, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose per 76.66.195.196. The current name accurately describes the contents of the category. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:40, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose. Way back when I created the category it was to contain only .ogg file format files, and I see it still contains only those. Why change what's working? //Halibutt 13:15, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename. — ξxplicit 00:28, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:PAS politicians to Category:Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party politicians
- Nominator's rationale: Rename to expand abbreviation and match the main article name. Darwinek (talk) 09:04, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- No objection, as creator. We could do the same for everything in Category:Malaysian politicians by party, except UMNO which I think should stay UMNO because the full name is almost never used. --Mkativerata (talk) 09:18, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- You are right. Should we make a batch nomination then? - Darwinek (talk) 12:25, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Here is a list for batch nomination. Anyone please feel free to amend the new names. --Mkativerata (talk) 20:30, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the list. I have nominated the rest of them at 26 June's CFD listing. - Darwinek (talk) 21:28, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

- Support should match related article Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (UNMO should be the same as the article United Malays National Organisation as well). MilborneOne (talk) 19:58, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename. — ξxplicit 00:28, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Villages in Vermont to Category:Incorporated villages in Vermont
- Nominator's rationale: Villages in Vermont can be incorporated or unincorporated. The 37 incorporated villages in Vermont are located in this category, and unincorporated villages are located in Category:Unincorporated communities in Vermont and Category:Census-designated places in Vermont; this category's name should reflect that it contains only the incorporated villages. TheCatalyst31 Reaction•Creation 03:56, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- What determines whether an unincorporated community in Vermont is a "village" beyond the generic meaning of the word? postdlf (talk) 05:31, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- In New England, "village" is generally used the same way as "unincorporated community" or "hamlet" would be used in other states; see New England town#Boroughs and villages. Villages in Vermont are an exception because they can be incorporated, but unincorporated communities there are still called villages. TheCatalyst31 Reaction•Creation 17:52, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support per nom. However as a follow on, Category:Unincorporated villages in Vermont needs to be created for the villages contained in the other categories. It may also be wise to recreate Category:Villages in Vermont as a parent for both. Now, if nothing in Category:Unincorporated communities in Vermont is a village .... - Nominator's rationale: Per Category:Soundtracks by artist nationality. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 02:05, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
