- Propose renaming Category:German emigrants to Mandatory Palestine to Category:Jewish emigrants from Germany to Mandatory Palestineā
- Nominator's rationale: They are all Jewish, except possibly one, (Orna Porat), depending how you define Jewish Rathfelder (talk) 19:31, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- Comment, none of the sibling categories in Category:Immigrants to Mandatory Palestine has a subcategory similar to as proposed. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:51, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- But I suspect pretty much all of them, except Category:Arab emigrants to Mandatory Palestine were Jewish. Would it be sensible to rename all of them? Being Jewish was clearly pretty defining in this context. Rathfelder (talk) 20:50, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- It would initially be a matter of splitting rather than renaming, leading to very poorly populated parent categories for non-Jewish people, like in this case for Orna Porat. I doubt if that is very helpful. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:39, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose Triple intersections are a bad idea; quadruple intersections are even worse. Laurel Lodged (talk) 07:33, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose. There were plenty of non-Jewish German emigrants to Palestine, most notably the Templers, and also Lutherans mentioned in articles Anglican-German Bishopric in Jerusalem and Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. Place Clichy (talk) 16:59, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose The ethnicity of immigrants is less important than their state of origin. Dimadick (talk) 07:44, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- Mandatory Palestine only existed between 1920 and 1948. In that period Jewish migration was pretty defining. Rathfelder (talk) 21:04, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose - leave Orna Porat and that is it; if not populated then delete. Proposed name change is not conventional.GreyShark (dibra) 14:28, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose The "German" here is referring to German nationality. Whether or not someone views German Jews as "German" or not (in whatever segregationist racial, ethnic, or cultural sense they may mean), is irrelevant. What is pertinent is nationality, the migration from one state to another state, not ethnicity or religion. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 18:02, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- This is to match the well established Category:Jewish emigrants from Nazi Germany to Mandatory Palestine but for people who left before or after the Nazi period. Rathfelder (talk) 23:00, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
