- Propose renaming Category:Cricket in Sri Lanka by province to Category:Cricket in Sri Lanka by city
- Nominator's rationale: rename per actual content, the subcategories are by city instead by province. Also reparent to Category:Sport in Sri Lanka by city instead of Category:Sport in Sri Lanka by province. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:45, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

Category:Films featuring anthropomorphic mice

- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Animated films about mice. There is a rough consensus to rename to "Animated films about ..." something. In considering "mice and rats" or "rodents", I noted that Category:Animated films about rats already exists and is separate from the categories about mice. So renaming to the mice option for now; users could propose that it be merged with Category:Animated films about rats in a future nomination, because the parent category is a combined Category:Films about mice and rats. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:03, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Films featuring anthropomorphic mice to Category:Films about mice and rats
- Nominator's rationale: Non-defining category, per WP:NONDEF. One could argue that all films about mice have anthropomorphized them in some way, otherwise it would be a pure nature documentary, so it goes without saying. An alternate possibility could be renaming the category to Category:Animated films about mice and rats and merging into it Category:Animated films about rats, since all the movies in this category are also animated.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 16:01, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Rename, animated films about mice and rats are very different from films about real mice and rats. However most articles currently in Category:Films about mice and rats should be moved to the animated subcategory.Marcocapelle (talk) 21:08, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Delete this is categorization by an at times trivial plot point, and at times is more a literary device.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:14, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Rename -- Category:Animated films about mice and rats or Category:Animated films about mice. This is a genre. It i not about real mice. Purge these films from a category about rea rodents. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:15, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- Rename -- to Category:Animated films about mice and rats. All these films feature anthropomorphic mice, and some of them (like the The Secret of NIMH and The Great Mouse Detective) feature anthropomorphic rats. Dimadick (talk) 18:30, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Rename to Category:Animated films about rodents. --Just N. (talk) 17:49, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: no consensus. There was good discussion and I feel that this was inching closer to a consensus. I would recommend a re-nomination in order to clarify the proposal that has been discussed. I think if the discussion was clearer on what the current proposal is it would attract more comments. Also, Category:Chinese orchestras was not tagged with Template:Cfr. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:08, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:China orchestras to Category:Chinese orchestras
- Propose renaming Category:Chinese orchestras to Category:Traditional chinese orchestras
- Nominator's rationale: Align Category:China orchestras with Category:Orchestras by nationality (Western style symphony orchestras). Rename Category:Chinese orchestras to Category:Traditional chinese orchestras (Chinese orchestras). intforce (talk) 15:41, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Comment, the former category may be renamed to Category:Chinese western-style orchestras while Category:Chinese orchestras could be turned into a dab page. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:21, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Category:Chinese western-style orchestras would go against Category:Orchestras by nationality though. intforce (talk) 21:47, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- That is correct. Category:Traditional chinese orchestras would also go against it. It is not always feasible to remain entirely consistent. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:56, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- As far as I can see, Category:Traditional chinese orchestras would be a completely new category, independent to Category:Orchestras by nationality. It would be something like Category:String orchestras, where you don't distinct by country. Category:Traditional chinese orchestras includes Chinese orchestras not only from China, but also from Singapore, Taiwan et cetera. Chinese orchestras (i.e. Orchestras from China) should not be confused with Chinese orchestras (orchestras using Chinese instruments). I agree this is somewhat confusing, hence the rename suggestion. intforce (talk) 22:10, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Support. I created Category:China orchestras to split these, but I'm not happy with the name. I think I agree with Marcocapelle here with the additional level of Western-style orcheatras. We could keep Category:Chinese orchestras as a supercategory, containing Category:Chinese Western-style orchestras (I think it's capitalized, but check MOS) and whichever traditional Chinese orchestras are in China (which is about half of them). This is analogous to how Category:British orchestras has subcategories for symphony orchestras, youth orchestras, etc. Chinese-style orchestras in other places are usually categorized both ways (e.g. currently Firebird Youth Chinese Orchestra is categorized in Category:Chinese orchestras as well as Category:Orchestras based in California). Other countries don't have the subcategory for Western-style orchestras because almost all of their members are, but they could. Anyway, I'm open to any way of naming these, it's hard to imagine finding one that is completely satisfying. Rigadoun (talk) 23:02, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Category:Chinese orchestras as a supercategory instead of a dab page is fine with me as well. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:17, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- I like this, though I would prefer Chinese symphony orchestras instead of Chinese Western-style orchestras. New proposal thus:
- Propose renaming Category:China orchestras to Category:Chinese symphony orchestras intforce (talk) 22:01, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose renaming Category:China orchestras to Category:Chinese orchestras, but rename Category:China orchestras instead to Category:Orchestras in China, also oppose renaming Category:Chinese orchestras. There seem to be a misunderstanding of what a Chinese orchestra is, it is a specific type of orchestra, consisting mainly of Chinese instruments ("Chinese" here pertains to things Chinese, the people or culture, rather than the country), and first developed in the 20th century. Chinese orchestra can be found in many countries outside of China, therefore it is not the same as China orchestra (Singapore Chinese Orchestra would not be placed in the category of orchestra in China. Also changing it to Category:Traditional Chinese orchestras would be superfluous and misleading, since Chinese orchestras uses Chinese instruments (as well as some Western instruments), is not entirely traditional (it is a modernised form), and traditionally there are/were other forms of orchestras in China. Hzh (talk) 11:31, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- Comment I think what should be done is to change Chinese orchestra to Chinese instrument orchestra. All other nationality+orchestra formation relate to that spefici nation, so it should be the same here as well.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:58, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete Category:West Texas, merge Category:Baseball venues in West Texas to Category:Baseball venues in Texas. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:59, 26 December 2020 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: A subjective category, the article West Texas itself gives multiple definitions of this region and describes it as "loosely defined." Also nomination Category:Baseball venues in West Texas. User:Namiba 14:43, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922) leaving behind a category redirect. (non-admin closure) --Trialpears (talk) 22:12, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Asia Minor disaster to Category:Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922)
- Nominator's rationale: The category definition of the nominated category states that "Asia Minor Catastrophe (Greek: Μικρασιατική Καταστροφή) is the Greek historiographical term for the Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922)." It appears, then, that it is a duplicate of the target category. We don't need a content fork here. Good Ol’factory (talk) 05:21, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Lemniscatic elliptic functions to Category:Elliptic functions
- Nominator's rationale: Contains only the main article and 9 redirects to that same article. Many of the redirects are synonymous with each other. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 03:58, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Delete per nom, no need to merge either since the redirects all link to an article that is already in the same tree. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:31, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

- Propose Deleting/Listifying Category:Recipients of the National Order of Madagascar
- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:PERFCAT and WP:OCAWARD)
- When foreign leaders visit Madagascar, or vice versa, the National Order of Madagascar is given out as souvenir to commemorate the visit. Mohammed VI of Morocco, Levi Eshkol and Anne Princess Royal are not remotely defined by this award. (There is one person in this category who is defined by their association with Madagascar, Romain Bruno Légaré, but his article only mentions the award in passing and is already well categorized.) The contents are already listified here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:06, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

- Propose Deleting/Listifying Category:Recipients of the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky
- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:PERFCAT, WP:OCAWARD)
- According to the main article, the first time the imperial Russian Order of Saint Alexander Nevsky was issued was to 12 guests at the wedding of Grand Duchess Anna Petrovna of Russia and Charles Frederick, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp. Promises were made to take the award more seriously but it increasingly became a souvenir for diplomatic visits: George V, Haakon VII of Norway, Albert I of Belgium, Abbas II of Egypt and Charles X are not remotely defined by this award. Even among the many Russian recipients, the award does not seem defining and generally get a passing reference along with other honours. There wasn't a list so I created one right here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:06, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
