- The result of the discussion was: keep. bibliomaniac15 01:49, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Feels pretty redundant to have. There's already Category:Bandai Namco Entertainment franchises which has all these entires plus dozens of others, so having one for its now-defunct predecessor seems pointless. Namcokid47 (Contribs) 23:21, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- Keep - these were Namco franchises, not Bandai Namco Entertainment franchises. Entries in both should be removed from the parent. Oculi (talk) 23:28, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- Keep These should reflect the franchises of Namco before the 2005 merger. Dimadick (talk) 16:00, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Propose deleting:
- Category:College men's basketball head coaches in Missouri
- Category:College men's basketball head coaches in North Dakota
- There are already categories for basketball coaches at most American colleges (regardless of state), for basketball coaches FROM each state, and the category Category:College men's basketball head coaches in the United States, which notes individuals who have served as head coaches generally (the school categories include both head coaches and assistants). The intersection of attributes in these categories are not defining as a whole and if the category tree were followed to its completion (all 50 US states), it could cause category clutter for well-traveled coaches. For example, Mysterious Walker would add nine categories as he has been head basketball coach in nine different states. Rikster2 (talk) 19:12, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- Strong delete per nom. Total overkill and not a defining characteristic. SportsGuy789 (talk) 22:14, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: This particular intersection of attributes is not defining. Categories already exist for Serbian men's basketball players, for expatriate basketball people and for basketball players for most American colleges. This merely adds category clutter. There are no other categories with this particular combination of attributes (nationality, sex, sport, expatriate status, college affiliation). Rikster2 (talk) 18:57, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. bibliomaniac15 01:50, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: There are 12 entries in the cat, 11 redirects to songs and one actual article, List of songs recorded by 4Minute. No assistance to navigation. Richhoncho (talk) 12:54, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- Delete-no actual article in the category, as all but one are redirects to the same article. WP:SMALLCAT therefore applies. Inter&anthro (talk) 22:19, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
- Delete Some were articles previously, thus the need for the category, but they've long since been redirected and navigating this way can be frustrating to readers. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 18:10, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Contains films by someone whose Wikipedia biographical entry has been deleted across both English and Greek versions, for being distinctly non-notable. The entries were created by SPA accounts, e.g. this one and confirmed sockpuppets, e.g. this one. A clear case of conflict of interest and intensive self-promotion. -The Gnome (talk) 06:50, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

- Keep. A common and significant common attribute is the Director of a film. Whether the director has an article is a separate question and not relevant to this discussion. NB There is no guideline, advice or other at WP that says cats must have supporting articles. --Richhoncho (talk) 15:44, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- Per H:CATS,
categories allow readers to navigate through Wikipedia and find related articles
(emphasis added). If the common link to the related articles is not notable what use is a category centered around someone unknown? Wikipedia is not a film directory, a listing of random information, or a fan site. In any case, WP:FILMSBYDIRECTORCAT is quite clear:A category for a director's films should be created provided that the director already has an article
. -The Gnome (talk) 19:23, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- The Gnome, so you are saying that, using this person as an example, if he had become famous for something other than being a film director, say, crime, politics or being a journalist, then this category could exist even though the article failed to mention he is a film director? Your first 4 guidelines are not specifically relevant to categories and the final, WP:FILMSBYDIRECTORCAT is not supported by overarching universal WP guidelines. --Richhoncho (talk) 23:01, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- Richhoncho, you wrote "There is no guideline, advice or other at WP that says cats must have supporting articles," so I provided you with "other." Now, you say WP:FILMSBYDIRECTORCAT "is not supported by overarching universal WP guidelines." Yet, this is WP:FILMCAT, the result of the most work done so far by Wikipedia editors, whose aim is "to improve the general order of Category:Films and to coordinate contributions in categorizing or re-categorizing groups of articles." The basis of the principles formulated in WP:FILMCAT is
the existing logic of categorizing
. That logic is as explicitly set out as is possible in the WP:CATDEF guideline:A central concept used in categorizing articles is that of the defining characteristics of a subject of the article. A defining characteristic is one that reliable sources commonly and consistently define the subject as having—such as nationality or notable profession (in the case of people), type of location or region (in the case of places), etc. For example, in Caravaggio, an Italian artist of the Baroque movement, Italian, artist, and Baroque may all be considered to be defining characteristics of the subject Caravaggio
. Note that all the characteristics cited in the example are Wikinotable. Here, our defining characteristic is "director," but from Wikipedia that specific director is absent. - As to your hypothetical, if the director of a film is notable, even though notable for something else than as a director, and they have more than one notable film made, then, yes, we could have a category of films directed by that person. It's standard Wikipedia policy. -The Gnome (talk) 08:40, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: merge. bibliomaniac15 04:55, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Armidale Dumaresq Shire to Category:Armidale Regional Council
- Nominator's rationale: per WP:SMALLCAT. Armidale Dumaresq Shire was a local govt area which existed from 2000 to 2016, when it was merged to Armidale Regional Council.
Geographical topics should be categorised in the current administrative areas, so that leaves the scope of the category as only topics related to the history, politics and administration of the council ... and so far as I can see, there is only one such article: Armidale Dumaresq Shire. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 01:44, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- Merge - of the two articles in the category, the river one is not time-specific to Armidale-Dumaresq over Armidale Regional, and is part of the latter category too. That just leaves the history article which doesn't need a category all to itself. -- Euryalus (talk) 08:51, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT and probably a WP:TRIVIALCAT as well. One article and a redirect, with little likelihood of expansion. Also a peripheral quality that arbitrarily groups articles together. Shooterwalker (talk) 01:02, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- Comment. Being bigger on the inside is probably the most important WP:DEFINING characteristic of the TARDIS. Labelling that as a
peripheral quality
makes no sense to me. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 01:47, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
