- Propose deleting Category:Recipients of grants or fellowships from the National Health and Medical Research Council
- Non-defining characteristics of researchers per WP:COPDEF, WP:NONDEF, and WP:OCAWARD. Researchers might receive grants or fellowships from hundreds of potential sources, but these are generally incidental to their primary notability as scientists, physicians, etc., rather than commonly or consistently discussed traits that contribute to their notability. There may also be difficulty in distinguishing whether grants are awarded to a person, group of people, or institution. While some major individual grants and fellowships may be defining categories (such as MacArthur Fellows), others are not, even well known ones such as Guggenheim Fellows (deleted per discussion). To my knowledge there are no other category schemes grouping people by funding from major national research agencies (e.g. National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, UK Research and Innovation, Canadian Institutes of Health Research). --Animalparty! - Delete -- If you are a grant-aided researcher, getting a grant from a national grant-giving body is a matter of course and wholly non-defining. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:11, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Fictional cowboys and cowgirls to Category:Western (genre) characters
- Nominator's rationale: Upmerge. Pointless category that has been and still is subject to serious misuse because very few of its articles are defined in any way as cowboys, cowgirls, ranchers, cattlemen, trail drivers, etc. The vast majority of Westerns have little to do with cattle and these characters should be included in the genre characters category. No one can possibly describe a character like the Man with No Name as a cowboy. Really, because of misuse and ignorance of WP:CATDEF, this category would probably run down to zero or at best to WP:SMALLCAT and so be deleted anyway. - Keep. The Man with No Name is no longer part of this category, but characters like Hopalong Cassidy, Jessie, Johnny West, Sheriff Woody, and Yosemite Sam—all of whom can be clearly defined as cowboys or cowgirls—are. It's unlikely to grow too significantly (mostly due to the lack of new Western media), but I see no reason for this category to be deleted or merged. – Rhain ☔ 11:41, 28 August 2021 (UTC)
- Nomination withdrawn. On second thoughts, I can see a use for this as a sub-category. The real issue is the lack of other suitable sub-cats, particularly one for fictional gunfighters. Could someone please close the case? Thanks. No Great Shaker (talk) 12:36, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Sports in Fairfield County, Connecticut. bibliomaniac15 05:03, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. Contains only 1 article (which is up for deletion) and a category for sportspeople. User:Namiba 19:31, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- Keep - seems to have five articles and a category now. Grutness...wha? 15:02, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- Two of the five are up for deletion and look as if they will soon be deleted.--User:Namiba 13:03, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

- Rename. I think an acceptable compromise would be to rename to Category:Sports in Fairfield County, Connecticut so that the scope the category covers is larger and is more likely to be significantly populated with sub-categories (i.e. Category:Sports in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Category:Fairfield Stags) and articles. The current category seems too small to be relevant on its own. 20:08, 28 August 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aidan721 (talk • contribs)
- I am fine with renaming and expanding.--User:Namiba 12:50, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- Comment. I will never understand that people count subcats with dozens of elements just as one entry. Is it just a trick of vision or a non-logoc attuned attitude? --Just N. (talk) 19:32, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- It only matters how many articles in the subcategory if the subcategory is nominated for SMALLCAT. That is not the case here. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:32, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
