- Propose renaming Category:People from Queens, New York by neighborhood to Category:People from Queens, New York, by neighborhood
- Nominator's rationale: Same as WP:Categories for discussion/Log/2017 November 25. --Thedarkknightli (talk) 19:55, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- Support for consistency. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:03, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

Category:UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowship. Kbdank71 04:35, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship to Category:UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowship
- Nominator's rationale: Rename Opposed speedy request; for categories, matching the article title trumps WP:COMMONNAME of WP:CONCISE concerns. UnitedStatesian (talk) 15:26, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- These are conflicting concerns and I'd like to explore other ways of addressing them. Perhaps renaming the article to "UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)"? Yaxu (talk) 16:13, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- In case it's a COI concern, I should add that I am close to the subject as I hold one of these fellowships. Yaxu (talk) 16:15, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

Delete-- This fails WP:OCAWARD. UKRI is the parent body for the various research councils (which fund academic research), but apparently makes some awards of its own. I do not think we normally categorise people by what scholarships or research grants they have received. What looks like a main article is actually an external link, so that we have no main article on the fellowships, only one on UKRI itself. Perhaps listify. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:54, 12 March 2022 (UTC)- The fellowship is a defining characteristic and so does not fail Wikipedia:OCAWARD. Category:Fellowships exists and this award fits well in the subcategory Category:Scholarship and fellowship recipients. Yaxu (talk) 21:55, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- Rename - it is customary to expand obscure acronyms, such as this one. (I can live with UK. UKRI could be anything; something to do with Ukraine perhaps. language=uk is Ukranian.) We have Category:Rhodes Scholars for instance. Oculi (talk) 02:29, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
- Delete or rename, based on the articles it does not seem to be very defining. If kept, follow the article's name. If the article should be renamed, feel free to start a WP:RM procedure, if granted the category can be speedied. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:00, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
- As I'm close to the subject I won't vote, but hope no-one minds one more attempt to explain how UKRI FLFs are 'defining'. They are substantial, flexible 4-7 year fellowships allowing recipients to start and fund an entire research lab for that time. Award holders tend to use it as their job title. They are the most 'prestigious' fellowships available from the UKRI and so I believe are enough to establish notability for award holders under WP:NACADEMIC on their own. It would be good to have an article too though. Yaxu (talk) 08:50, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Extraordinary Writ (talk) 22:47, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Really, any type of percussion instrument can and has been used in a marching ensemble. The only instruments really endemic to this category would be instruments listed on the actual page, "Marching percussion". Why? I Ask (talk) 13:07, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- Delete -- The content is merely percussion instruments that might be used by marching bands. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:56, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- Delete per nom. There is no need to merge anything, the articles are already in the tree of Category:Percussion instruments. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:21, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: I'm currently torn over whether to actually add the missing people to this category or just delete it outright. Personally, I'm leaning toward the latter, as it's too niche a category. Why? I Ask (talk) 11:41, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- OPPOSE Seems like one more attempt to remove anything havingt to do with drum corps... All of the people in the category have Wikipedia articles and are heavily involved in the actiity. GWFrog (talk) 16:10, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- @GWFrog Please don't misconstrue this as an attack against drum corps. I have been working to improve Thom Hannum's page and am looking to create Scott Johnson's page, both of whom are heavily involved with drum corps. However, I just doubt that this category is of much use (and that it may indeed break WP:OC). Why? I Ask (talk) 00:16, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

- Delete, people are known for playing an instrument (e.g. as a percussionist or a drummer) and categorized as such, they are not known for where they play. It seems a sort of WP:PERFCAT. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:55, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- Delete - This is like a cross between WP:PERFCAT and WP:TRIVIALCAT. Comparable might be Category:People in choirs. Too generic to categorise by. - jc37 03:06, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- Delete we categorize by what instrument people perform. What next Category:People who sang in choirs? Category:Pianists who accompanied choirs? And this is just the beganning of where this would go. Down this road we do not want to go. We already have most musicians in more categories than makes sense, we do not need more music related categories.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:56, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Extraordinary Writ (talk) 22:42, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: delete per WP:SMALLCAT, currently only one article. There is no need to merge, the article is already in Category:Coffee houses of Canada and Category:Food and drink companies based in Vancouver. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:58, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- Delete per nominator....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 16:07, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- Delete. I was the creator of this category and I built it based on Category:Coffee in Seattle (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) to document the coffee culture similar to the ones for Seattle and Portland. However an AFD took down the constituent pages. So, does not make much sense to leave the category page when the underlying pages do not exist. Good luck. Ktin (talk) 18:08, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
- Delete per WP:SMALLCAT and WP:NONDEF. Inter&anthro (talk) 20:07, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Science software. Kbdank71 04:44, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Biology software to Category:Science software
- Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with one article and one subcategory. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:42, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
- Comment - can Osteoware just be categorised under Category:Free bioinformatics software, per Bioinformatics? If so, then this cat could just be deleted/upmerged. If not, then I think a rename to Category:Forensic anthropology software (per Forensic anthropology), or Category:Bioarchaeology software (per Bioarchaeology), could be better, and might give potential opportunities for growth. - jc37 03:15, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- Fair point, I moved the article. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:59, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: soft delete. Per WP:NOQUORUM, this uncontroversial low-participation XfD has been closed as "soft delete". Any editor may request at WP:REFUND that the category be restored. (non-admin closure) Extraordinary Writ (talk) 18:16, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: delete, its two subcategories are rather unrelated to each other. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:37, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Mughal funerary gardens in India to Category:Mughal gardens in India
- Propose merging Category:Mughal funerary gardens in Pakistan to Category:Mughal gardens in Pakistan
- Nominator's rationale: purge and merge, most articles are about tombs and those are already in Category:Mughal tombs. After purging these, upmerge the remainder per WP:SMALLCAT. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:45, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
