- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. Contains only 1 entry for the event itself. User:Namiba 23:25, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- UpMerge - but only to parents with the word "festival" in their name. - jc37 00:54, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 21:33, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: I think this category page should be deleted because:
1) Though it was created 17 years ago, it has never had more than one entry.
2) The one entry it has, V838 Monocerotis, is generally believed to be a luminous red nova, and not some mysterious unclassifiable object.
3) The name is rather vague. PopePompus (talk) 22:02, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- Delete per WP:OCMISC. - jc37 00:51, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- Delete per WP:SMALLCAT. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:05, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- Delete Does not seem to be a well-defined standard category; unclassifiable variable stars would go to Category:Irregular variables. The only uses of this phrase on Wikipedia are in reference titles at R Aquarii, V389 Cygni, V725 Sagittarii, and V838 Monocerotis; and one undefined usage at HD 160529. All of these stars are well-classified in the current scheme. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 16:19, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: dual merge. to Category:Icelandic businesspeople and to Category:Restaurateurs. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 21:34, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- Propose deleting - Category:Icelandic businesspeople by industry - added/tagged - jc37 00:51, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. This category has only 1 entry Estopedist1 (talk) 21:47, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- Merge to Category:Icelandic businesspeople. The parent also seems to only exist for this single cat, I tagged and added it as well. - jc37 00:51, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

- Nominator's rationale: Unclear criteria as there is no single definition of a historical building. User:Namiba 01:22, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom. We categorize buildings by being listed e.g. in the National Register of Historic places. Move articles of this category to Category:Buildings and structures in Syracuse, New York where necessary. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:22, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
- withdrawn
Rename to Category:Landmarks in Syracuse, New York under existing parent Category:Locally designated landmarks in the United States and Category:Landmarks in the United States by city. National, state, and local systems of historic buildings, better to combine than 3 different parallel trees. KISS.

- Comment They both have a point. I'm also looking at Category:National Register of Historic Places in Syracuse, New York, and wondering if this is just a duplication. - jc37 01:04, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- Remember having some discussions a few years ago about landmarks versus buildings, and certified by authority rather than some editor thinking it was important. There are/were several sets of parallel duplicate trees. There are many authorities: National Register, National Historic Landmarks, etc. See Category:Heritage registers in the United States. I'd thought the decision was to merge them all into "historic places" (not historicAL). But my memory must be wrong, as now we have "Locally designated landmarks". A quick search finds Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2018 May 12#Landmarks (not merged or deleted) proposed by Marcocapelle, back when we had more CfD participants. What now?
William Allen Simpson (talk) 03:10, 17 February 2023 (UTC) - It appears that the nominated category just contains a random subset of Category:National Register of Historic Places in Syracuse, New York. One more reason to delete. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:15, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- Petscan those not in Category:National Register of Historic Places in Syracuse, New York
- Three are in Category:National Register of Historic Places in Broome County, New York instead. One is Category:National Register of Historic Places in Onondaga County, New York. The remainder were burned down.

- Delete — some of these places are were never landmarks, some are not in Syracuse, some were burned down.
William Allen Simpson (talk) 11:38, 17 February 2023 (UTC) - Delete I'm ok with this sort of a category as a parent for different heritage registers, but putting loose articles in it like here is pure WP:SUBJECTIVECAT. - RevelationDirect (talk) 18:56, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

- Delete per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:14, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- Keep. Disagree with Nominator. Numbers of athletes have credited their athletic performance to the fact that they follow a plant-based diet, others have publicly declared to be on a vegan diet for health or ethical reasons, whatever the rationale once they publicly define themselves as vegan, it is a characteristic commonly mentioned in sources. Athletes such as Lewis Hamilton, Tia Blanco, Alex Morgan, Nick Kyrgios Chris Smalling, Carl Lewis or Chris Paul to name a few have declared themselves to be vegan or to follow a plant-based diet. A search for "vegan Athletes" returns 113,000 results, “Carl Lewis vegan” returns 46,800 results “ Lewis Hamilton Vegan” 8,440 results while a search for "Chris Paul Vegan" and "Chris Smalling Vegan" returns results such as: "How Going Vegan has Benefitted NBA Star Chris Paul” and " Football Going Vegan: Chris Smalling explains why he turned to plant-based diet". The level of interest clearly shows how the two intersect, there would be no way to find them without those articles being categorized. Lewolka (talk) 20:48, 16 February 2023 (UTC) edited Lewolka (talk) 06:54, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- That merely indicates there may be room for a list, not that it is a defining characteristic of the people in the category. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:21, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Marcocapelle Thank you for proposing something (a list), I'd love to know why you think that it is not a defining characteristic of the people in the category? another reliable source (business insider): Elite athletes who are vegan, and what made them switch their diet. Lewolka (talk) 16:56, 19 February 2023 (UTC) edited Lewolka (talk) 10:20, 20 February 2023 (UTC)
- For example this source mentions nothing about veganism. And even if it would, it would merely be mentioned as a trivialty. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:32, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
- I had no idea that every source had to mention it but I guess it makes sense, thank you @Marcocapelle. All my best Lewolka (talk) 20:55, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

- Delete. The parent category was previously deleted, and there's no credible reason why Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners need special treatment. Note that I'm also adding the Category:Vegan sportspeople by sport parent category, which will be emptied if this goes. Bearcat (talk) 14:23, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Bearcat No "special treatment" is requested here, sportspeople would be fine too as this is just a way to categorise athletes with a common characteristic (as explained previously with examples in various sports). Lewolka (talk) 16:37, 19 February 2023 (UTC) edited Lewolka (talk) 10:20, 20 February 2023 (UTC)
- Delete - I put the single article Roberto Jimenez (grappler) in Category:Veganism activists. No need whatever to intersect by sport. (I am fairly sure that Category:Vegetarians was deleted long ago, and Category:Vegans should follow.) Oculi (talk) 00:53, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Oculi How is that an improvement? that's an even narrower category and there are no mentions of activism in the article supporting his inclusion in that other category. Lewolka (talk) 16:35, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
- Delete — per parent discussion precedent.

- Propose merging Category:Sports competitions in Tabriz to Category:Sport in Tabriz
- Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT. Only one article. Merge to Category:Sports competitions in Iran is not necessary as the lone article is in that scope already. –Aidan721 (talk) 15:19, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom, but merge to Category:Sport in Tabriz. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:16, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose as it now contains Category:Tour of Azerbaijan (Iran) and its many sub-categories. Tabriz is a large city and growth is reasonable, thus SMALLCAT does not apply.--User:Namiba 23:28, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- Category:Tour of Azerbaijan (Iran) can easily be classified under Category:Sport in Tabriz. –Aidan721 (talk) 04:37, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:Wampanoag tribe to Category:Wampanoag
- Propose renaming Category:Shawnee tribe to Category:Shawnee
- Propose renaming Category:Blackfoot tribe to Category:Blackfoot Confederacy
- Nominator's rationale: There are three federally recognized tribes each for the Cherokee, the Seminole, the Kickapoo, and the Shawnee; the Blackfoot are divided into one federally recognized tribe in the US and three First Nations bands in Canada; the Wampanoag consist of two federally recognized tribes. A category referring to a singular Cherokee, Seminole, Kickapoo, Wampanoag, or Blackfoot tribe causes confusion.
