Category:Jewish Americans by state
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

- Propose merging Category:Jewish Americans by state to Category:American Jews by state or territory
- Nominator's rationale: Upmerge to parent category, as @Omnis Scientia: rightly noted [1] (albeit doing so out of process). This category "only contained one category. removed that category which is present in two more relevant ones". I agree with their reasoning, but would like to show how this process should be done. - It is a matter of whether we want Jewish Americans or American Jews. We have categories for each.--User:Namiba 00:45, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
- Going by Category:American Christians by state, the parent category should by named Category:American Jews by state while the categories in should either be "Jews from *state name*" or "Jewish American people from *state name*". Personally, I'm in favor of the former as it matches the pattern in the Christians category. Omnis Scientia (talk) 08:57, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
- OR we could renamed it Category:American Christians by state or territory, move the catergories of insular areas and D.C. there. Omnis Scientia (talk) 09:47, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
- Good idea. I have nominated the "people" parent at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2023_December_1#Category:People_from_the_United_States_by_state. – Fayenatic London 16:08, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only two subcategories. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:43, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- Keep I don't see how its redundant, being a monarch is pretty defining.★Trekker (talk) 22:45, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- Kings and emperors are even more defining, the proposal is to bring these directly under royalty for easier access. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:48, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. This helps with navigation, and isn't a statement about the value of the overall category. If the category were to have more people in it, that would be helpful for navigation, but well, with just two it serves to isolate them. Mason (talk) 23:47, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Legacy High School (Midland, Texas) alumni. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 21:49, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: This school was renamed to Legacy High School in October 2020 and the corresponding Wikipedia article was moved accordingly. There is a policy about the alumni categories reflecting the current name of the school (hence the category being "Arizona State University alumni" and not "Tempe Normal School alumni") but I can't find it. - The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 21:50, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: A category that contains only redirects for a band's albums to a target with zero sourced or meaningful content regarding the topic of the redirect is not useful or beneficial to readers. In this case, its only mention is a listing in the discography section. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:09, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- Keep per 15(?) year-old precedent and many such discussions that Albums by artist categories should be retained even if they only contain redirects. If need be, I can get diffs, but this has been discussed many, many times. Cf. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums/Album_article_style_advice#Redirects.

- There is precedent to delete: Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2017 June 19#Category:Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash albums and Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2023 May 25#Category:Antonio Nóbrega albums, along with similar results for categories with nothing but redirected song titles pointing to albums: Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2015 May 21#Category:Saves the Day songs and Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 October 26#Category:Lennon songs. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:38, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- Delete, a category with only redirects is not meaningful except for maintenance purposes, which is clearly not the case here. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:06, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- Delete No use to navigation. One redirect that redirects to the band article page is not a navigation aid, it's a chocolate teapot.--Richhoncho (talk) 09:25, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

:* Propose renaming Category:Fictional American characters of Asian descent to Category:Fictional Asian-Americans
- Nominator's rationale: Given that the header for the category itself says that it's for characters who are Asian-American, I'm not sure why we have a current category name that's a bit of a mouthful and somewhat ambiguous (I initially wasn't sure whether this was intended to be characters that are part of American productions). - Merge. It is not defining to combine birth state, state of education, or state of employment with these occupations (especially because those three are different things conflated together in these categories). Our category system is a mess of non-defining intersections but that is not an excuse to create more. I would also support a similar merger for e.g. Category:Chemists from Kentucky, Category:Engineers from Kentucky, and Category:Mathematicians from Kentucky, for the same reason.
