- Nominator's rationale: Eponymous category newly created just to hold a single photograph. As always, every photograph does not automatically require the creation of a dedicated eponymous category at the proper name of the specific thing or person depicted in the photograph -- we just categorize photographs by the class of topic depicted, and it doesn't aid navigation of Wikipedia to obsessively filter everything down into microcategories of one. - Support per nom. The jpg file may be added to an appropriate subcategory in the tree of Category:Wikipedia images. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:04, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- There is also an article on Explorer 5, but I'm not seeing much else that could go in this category. The existing Category:Explorers Program seems to do the job there just fine. Caeciliusinhorto-public (talk) 09:47, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: This category and all of its sub-categories are not used anymore by the WikiProject banner templates. Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2023 October 26#Unused wikiProject custom class masks has a list of the few custom /class templates left, none of which have sub-categories listed here. - Nominator's rationale: While I understand the intent behind the creation of this category, I don't think this was a good idea. Episode redirects should be tagged with the correct redirect template which will place them in the relevant category. In this case, Category:The West Wing episode redirects to lists. This just creates a semi-duplicate category tree which I hope this is the only current member of. Gonnym (talk) 12:48, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Borderline WP:C2F. The only content here is eponymous article Figurehead (which is rather poor) and child Category:Ceremonial heads of state, a pretty synonymous notion according to the article. So this would basically be a down merge, as the eponymous article is already in the child category. Place Clichy (talk) 08:33, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

- Delete per nom. Maybe Category:Figureheads should be created as a catredirect to Category:Ceremonial heads of state, though. Edward-Woodrow (talk) 20:51, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
- That could make sense, so rename Category:Figurehead to Category:Figureheads, then convert to redirect. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Interesting, but clearly this is a trivial and non-defining characteristic, so these aren't appropriate categories. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 06:57, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
- Keep, maybe purge somewhat. I believe this notion is mostly important in the context of monarchy and hereditary succession, but in this context it is pretty damn important as countries have been kept on edge for months. It is certainly defining for John the Posthumous, Ladislaus the Posthumous, Stephen the Posthumous and many others. Probably not so much for the like of Motilal Nehru (although the Nehru-Gandhi are a dynasty of their own) or Clark James Gable. Maybe rename (and rescope) to Category:Posthumous children of monarchs/Category:Posthumous sons of monarchs/Category:Posthumous daughters of monarchs and make a child of Category:Children of monarchs/Category:Sons of monarchs/Category:Daughters of monarchs. Although I wonder if that is not too restrictive seen the case of Henri, Count of Chambord, whose birth as posthumous son of the assassinated heir to the throne is quite notable and should be included imho. - Nominator's rationale: this is not defining Mason (talk) 04:24, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- I'm just now reading WP:DEFINING, but to my understanding the category is defining. See articles like [2][3][4][5][6] for Ernest Bethell. Koreans love foreigners who advocated for Korean independence, and write about them frequently. Another example, [7][8][9][10] for George Ashmore Fitch. toobigtokale (talk) 04:30, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- Non-Korean is the issue that's not defining. Being "non-korean" isn't something people would be described as. A rename might be helpful to something like, Activists for Korean independence. Mason (talk) 01:45, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

- @Toobigtokale: I believe this category could be kept, but it probably needs a better name. See Category:Philhellenes, Category:Estophiles and Category:Japanophilia for kinda similar situations. I would suggest Category:Foreign supporters of Korean independence. (I wonder if Koreanophile is an actual word, it seems to have some catchment.) Maybe also purge selectively, as I doubt that Chiang Kai-shek is primarily defined as a Korean independence activist. In a past discussion we preferred "foreign" to "non-German".
