- Propose renaming Category:Amsberg to Category:House of Amsberg
- Nominator's rationale: This was the only category I saw in the category:German noble families that wasn't either called "House of FOO", or "FOO family" or "FOOians". I noticed that the page is named: "Amsberg", but the bolded name is "House of Amsberg" Mason (talk) 23:38, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- Purge, it is not a defining characteristic of members of the Dutch royal family. Prince Claus of the Netherlands still belongs here, but he married into the House of Orange-Nassau. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:11, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
- Don't rename. We should match the name of the article. No objection to purging. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:38, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:14th-century Norwegian people by occupation to Category:14th-century Norwegian people
- Nominator's rationale: Overcategorization, there's only one occupation in this category. Category:14th-century Norwegian writers Even if you include the other occupation(ish) category of Category:14th-century Norwegian monarchs, I still think it's just making it harder to navigate at the moment. - The result of the discussion was: Delete A redirect can be created editorially if needed. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:38, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: delete, this is an exact duplicate of Category:Sailboat type designs by Maurice Edel. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:36, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support. Would it be worthwhile to include a redirect? I think that Edel is the company, while Maurice is the person. Mason (talk) 23:24, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- I do not know if Edel is the name of the company. If you have some kind of confirmation about that then a redirect is certainly fine. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:17, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Small cat without a corresponding eponymous article about the family. Are a father-son pair. no cat interlanguage links Mason (talk) 03:35, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
I started this category but soon regretted it and agree that it should be deleted Rcb1 (talk) 09:05, 18 October 2023 (UTC)rcb1
- @Rcb1: you may well depopulate the category and tag the category page with {{Db-self}}. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:26, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: small cat (n=2) father-son pair without a corresponding eponymous article about the family. category has 1 interlanguage link (but it still seems unlikely for growth). Mason (talk) 03:14, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: purge but keep. Specifically, implement Place Clichy's suggestion to purge everything but "context explicitly linked to Arab ethnicity". @Place Clichy, Marcocapelle, and Smasongarrison: I would also like to take a moment to say that this is an example of Wikipedia discussion at its best. This is probably the best discussion I have had the pleasure of closing; thank you for your thoughtful contributions! (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 14:44, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Arab Christians to Category:Christians in the Middle East
- Nominator's rationale: rename, the current name is inaccurate because often Christians in the Middle East do not identify as Arab, as is also recognized in article Arab Christians. If kept, then purge most subcategories. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:15, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
- Keep but purge national subcategories. It is disagreeable that people would use Arab container categories for people from countries deemed to be Arabic, a very wrong assumption (e.g. Category:Egyptian Christians). Marcocapelle is right to point out that many or most people belonging to a Christian minority in an otherwise Arab country will not automatically self-identify as Arabs. However, some do. Article Arab Christians clearly shows that this is a thing, and it should be assumed to be defining when editors explicitly placed an article either directly in this category or in select child categories Arab Christians in Mesopotamia, Arab Christian saints, Israeli Arab Christians or Ghassanid kings (a Christian pre-Islamic Arab tribe). I believe it to be also the case for Category:Antiochian Greek Christians, as main article Antiochian Greek Christians states that members of this religious community strongly identify with Arab nationalism since the 19th century, a topic which even has its own article. Place Clichy (talk) 16:34, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support rename, but purge national subcategories. per Place Clichy Mason (talk) 20:14, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: There appears to be consensus for purging the national subcats, but should this category be kept or renamed?
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, HouseBlastertalk 02:07, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Smasongarrison: I think it is a matter of either/or: either we rename or we purge. If we rename there is no longer a reason to purge. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:31, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- Ahh sorry, I should have clarified. i meant that I support the rename, but if we keep the original name, we should purge like you suggested. however, I think either end product would be fine. and I could see implementing both categories trees. Mason (talk) 12:07, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Marcocapelle: Actually, there is already Category:Middle Eastern Christians for Christians of the region, Arab or not. All national sub-categories in Category:Arab Christians are already there (Bahraini Christians, Egyptian Christians, Iraqi Christians, Jordanian Christians, Lebanese Christians, Palestinian Christians, Syrian Christians, and Yemeni Christians). So I still suggest to purge these geography-based categories from Category:Arab Christians and keep it strictly for content explicitly linked to Arab ethnicity (which I listed above). Place Clichy (talk) 13:58, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- That is a wholly acceptable alternative. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:50, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
