- The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Fictional martial artists. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 17:23, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Fictional martial artists by gender to Category:Fictional martial artists
- Propose merging Category:Fictional martial artists by franchise to Category:Fictional martial artists
- Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only 2-3 subcategories. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:57, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support merge per nom. Mason (talk) 18:06, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support For this reason, we don't need many container categories indexed by gender alone. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 05:04, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- That is a good point. See follow-up nomination Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2023_October_26#Category:Superheroes_by_gender. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:35, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Museums of Japanese culture in the United States. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 17:17, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Museums of Japanese culture abroad in the United States to Category:Museums of Japanese culture in the United States
- Nominator's rationale: Abroad and in the United States are redundant. Place Clichy (talk) 12:50, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Rename, US implies abroad, no need to add that explicitly. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:29, 25 October 2023 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete both this and the subcategory. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 21:25, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Emigrants from the Duchy of Prussia to Category:Emigrants from the Kingdom of Prussia
- Nominator's rationale: overlapping category where regime isn't defining. It's also worth considering a rename to Prussian emigrants. Mason (talk) 04:31, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Just delete, including the subcategory, the duchy of Prussia was a Polish fief, it is silly to call this emigration. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:32, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Alt: propose deleting Category:Emigrants from the Duchy of Prussia to the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth
- Just delete, including the subcategory. An over-enthusiastic creation. Place Clichy (talk) 12:55, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- I really like this characterization: "over-enthusiastic creation" Mason (talk) 18:07, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- (Also I'm fine with deleting.) Mason (talk) 03:52, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: dual merge into the original proposed target and Category:People of French West Africa. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 17:22, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:People from Dahomey to Category:Beninese people
- Propose merging Category:20th-century Dahomeyan people to Category:20th-century Beninese people
- Propose merging Category:Politicians from Dahomey to Category:Beninese politicians
- Propose merging Category:Emigrants from Dahomey to Category:Beninese emigrants
- Propose merging Category:Writers from Dahomey to Category:Beninese writers
- Propose merging Category:Journalists from Dahomey to Category:Beninese journalists
- Nominator's rationale: underpopulated categories with only two people in it. Further it's unclear whether the category is for People from French Dahomey or Kingdom of Dahomey Mason (talk) 04:10, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Dual merge also to Category:People of French West Africa. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:47, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Dual merge also to Category:People of French West Africa. The three (!) people in this entire category tree are all related to colonial French Dahomey. Also note that the country was also named Dahomey after the 1960 independence (until the 1980s IIRC), and people from that era are all categorized under Beninese. Place Clichy (talk) 12:58, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support the dual merfe. Thanks @Place Clichy for doing some more digging into the nuances of Dahomey :) Mason (talk) 03:55, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 17:19, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Only member of the category doesn't belong in the category. Pedro José Lobo "On January 12, 1892, Pedro José Lobo was born in Manatuto, in Timor-Leste. " Mason (talk) 13:14, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- Agree in principle but merge to Category:East Timorese diaspora and Category:Portuguese emigrants to Macau. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:31, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- Delete without merging. Article Pedro José Lobo was already a Portuguese national of Macanese background (in the ethnic sense of the mixed Chinese-Portuguese population that represents a small fraction of Macau's population). He was born in then-Portuguese Timor and lived most of his life in Macau. I don't believe that emigrant or diaspora apply in this case. Place Clichy (talk) 23:07, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Place Clichy: if e.g. his grandparents migrated from Macao to Timor (which is not clear from the article) the term "emigrant" still applies. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:12, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- They were the same country at the time. You're not a migrant when you move from the Azores to Madeira. But in fact, as you put it, we don't know much about it. Place Clichy (talk) 09:06, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- I would regard a move from one colony to another colony still a form of emigration even if the colonizing country is the same for both colonies. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:56, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, HouseBlastertalk 02:32, 25 October 2023 (UTC)- @Marcocapelle: I think I would regard a move in that situation as an emigration mostly if the person is defined as a national of the departure country/colony before the move, and of the arrival country/colony after it. If they are better defined from the beginning as a national of either the colonizing country or the place of arrival, then I find emigrant not applicable. Pedro José Lobo is in the latter case, as he is clearly presented as first and foremost a Portuguese, of Macanese ethnicity, with roots in Macau, and no link specified to Timor besides the POB. A comparable situation is the case of children of US military people born on a US base in Germany during their parents' sometimes short tour there (there's a number of them). They're just American, not immigrants from West Germany. Place Clichy (talk) 10:06, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- Admittedly these are special circumstances and I will no longer oppose deletion. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:31, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Actresses from the Colony of New South Wales to Category:Actresses from New South Wales
- Propose merging Category:Male actors from the Colony of New South Wales to Category:Male actors from New South Wales
- Nominator's rationale: overlapping category. I don't think that the intersection between regime + occupation is defining for Actresses Mason (talk) 02:28, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Dual merge, also to Category:Colony of New South Wales people. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:50, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Dual merge per Marcocapelle. It seems that Colony of New South Wales is defining for the 2 articles there, as they were active mostly during this period. Place Clichy (talk) 10:09, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
