Category:Stinkers Bad Movie Award winning films

- The result of the discussion was: no consensus. Thorough discussion; not likely a WP:RELIST will help (especially considering that most of the regulars have opined). HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:59, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Not a defining award Mason (talk) 21:46, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Keep as the film award is notable, see Stinkers Bad Movie Awards and 2006 Stinkers Bad Movie Awards. We aren't in the business of deciding what award is or is not worthwhile adding to a page or to a category, even if the award is for bad movie-making. That is basically censorship (see WP:NOTCENSORED), a policy, which outweighs the WP:OCAWARD argument below, which itself isn't strong, as almost all awards are non-defining, yet we include them. What we go by is notablitiy. If an award is notable, i.e. has an article, then we include the award in the article. When an award is included in the article, we also allow for categorizes to be added (when enough entries are available). Gonnym (talk) 12:17, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- For the record, my take is that most awards aren't defining. Regardless of whether the award is for good or less than good content. Mason (talk) 20:27, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- Strong Keep It was a very significant award. Especially for its time. Vinnylospo (talk) 17:12, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

- Delete The award is definitely notable so we have the Stinkers Bad Movie Awards article. But the award is not defining to these film articles, per WP:OCAWARD. - RevelationDirect (talk) 21:59, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: merge. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:53, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:California winemakers to Category:American winemakers
- Nominator's rationale: Upmerge to parent category. I understand that California has the most vineyards but I don't think we should defuse by state because of that. Omnis Scientia (talk) 18:16, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Merge for now. Seems reasonable to me Mason (talk) 01:31, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:53, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:19th-century Kongo people to Category:19th-century African people
- Propose merging Category:18th-century Kongo people to Category:Kongo people and Category:18th-century African people
- Nominator's rationale: There's only one person across both of these centuries. I don't think that the Kongo people category tree is large enough to need diffusion by century Mason (talk) 17:51, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Just delete, the article is about someone who was notable as a Haitian rebel leader. He was probably born in Kongo. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:45, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Another WP:XY redirect which should be deleted. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 17:26, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Delete per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:46, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Delete per nom, clearly violates Wikipedia:XY since there's no way to determine which of the 2 categories the user is searching for. ApexParagon (talk) 20:22, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: merge. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:53, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Land disputes by country to Category:Land disputes
- Nominator's rationale: Upmerge for now. There are only two countries in here (and they're barely populated), which isn't helpful for navigation Mason (talk) 14:21, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. Better nominate the subcategories too. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:49, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 02:04, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Lighthouses completed in the 2nd century to Category:Ancient lighthouses
- Nominator's rationale: rename and re-parent, one of the two lighthouses was completed in the 3rd century BC rather than in the 2nd century CE. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:56, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Great suggestion! Support per nom Mason (talk) 12:04, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Question: Would this cause issues with this category's subcategorization in the container category Category:Lighthouses by century of completion? I don't know off the top of my head whether WP:CCAT means having both Category:Lighthouses completed in the 2nd century and Category:Lighthouses completed in the 3rd century with one article in each, though I suppose I suspect it doesn't. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 22:59, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- No, there are more than enough "ancient" and "medieval" categories which are not diffused by century. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:22, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: merge. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:53, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Canals opened in the 12th century to Category:Transport infrastructure completed in the 12th century and Category:Medieval canals
- Propose merging Category:Canals opened in the 13th century to Category:Transport infrastructure completed in the 13th century and Category:Medieval canals
- Propose merging Category:Canals opened in the 14th century to Category:Transport infrastructure completed in the 14th century and Category:Medieval canals
- Propose merging Category:Canals opened in the 15th century to Category:Medieval canals
- Nominator's rationale: merge, these are all one- or two-article categories, this is not helpful for navigation. The 15th-century has only one merge target because the two articles are already in decade categories of transport infrastructure. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:41, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Archival technology to Category:Archival science
- Nominator's rationale: Upmerge. There's only one page in here, which isn't helpful for navigation Mason (talk) 02:19, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Agree that in its current state this category is not helpful. It would not surprise me if the category can be populated further, but I do not know much about archiving so won't do that myself. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:01, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Category:Retailers

- The result of the discussion was: rename. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 02:07, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Retailers to Category:Retail companies
- Nominator's rationale: The term "Retailers" is too ambiguous; when I first saw it in Category:Retailing I assumed it was referring to people. But then I discovered that most of the subcats are for Retail companies. Thank goodness the editors who created those subcats had the good sense to use that term rather than "Retailers", so I don't think any of the subcats are in need of renaming. :) Anomalous+0 (talk) 01:16, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Rename, if only for consistency with the subcategories. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:10, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- No objection. Perhaps these CFDs which renamed subcats to follow "retailers" need further consideration: A 2016 CFD stuck with "online retailers" – is that clearly about companies anyway? Also this 2008 CFD chose "Comics retailers" rather than "Comic book stores". – Fayenatic London 12:31, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
