Nominator's rationale: rename in order to align the category with its sibling categories Category:Ancient Greek military books and Category:Byzantine military manuals. The articles are already in a Latin category by period. After renaming, one article should be added, one article should be removed. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:21, 22 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • It has been a subcategory of Category:Greco-Roman military books for more than 15 years. All articles but one are from antiquity. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:52, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like two or three others are medieval revisions or epitomes of lost Roman works. And it's not unlikely that some Renaissance-era works on the topic not yet included were written in Latin. Is it normal to classify works by language rather than or in addition to culture of origin? If so, then this may be a logical distinction, though both categories might be appropriate. P Aculeius (talk) 10:59, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we should do away with Greco-Roman military books? Further, "military books" may be too broad. If it covers military history, the majority of Latin military books will be medieval. I assume the category was for military treatises excluding military history, but the content of Ancient Greek military books is a mishmash. I have added three articles to the category since this discussion began. Srnec (talk) 13:35, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. A perfectly clear defining/neutral/verifiable category so that it can be kept. The move suggested would change the focus of the category. If pages are to be removed, remove them. If parent categories are to be adapted,, adapt them. f the suggested target category is needed, create it but don’t delete or merge valid categories, please.-Mushy Yank. 21:27, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep It will be more unambiguous to sort by language rather than nationality, as some of these are known only through later manuscripts. Accordingly, Category:Ancient Greek military books should be refocused only on the Greek language and renamed to Category:Military books in Ancient Greek. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 01:05, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 00:09, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: A really trivial category. Fyunck(click) (talk) 22:32, 2 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Theres literally another category that is exactly like this one but for Djokovic coaches, “Category:Novak Djokovic coaches”. I really do not see why this specific category should be seen as something different from that other one. Haddad Maia fan (talk) 23:01, 2 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
A lot has to do with WikiProject Tennis guidelines for coaches. Bottom line is coaches are rare articles to be notable, and the most common case is when a player chooses coaching after retirement. Otherwise when a singles player wins one of the majors or is number 1 in the world, their coach gets way way more publicity. The bar is usually quite high for tennis coaches to have an article, let alone a whole tennis category. Fyunck(click) (talk) 01:04, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Deceased fictional characters

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus. There are a couple of points to make. For one, there seems to be disagreement about whether this category is for characters who have been dead at some point in their story arc (and possibly resurrected since them), dead for good (possibly in stories without resurrection), or who are dead as of the latest chronological work (even if they might be revived later on). That was not really discussed, but editors in this discussion seem to have different ideas about which of these three the category is meant for; further discussion at Category talk:Deceased fictional characters might be able to resolve this. The second point is about what there is consensus to do in this discussion. Some editors believe that it is defining as-is, some editors think that death is not defining and would delete this category, and some editors think that being dead with no additional qualifications is not defining—even though dying from [cause] is defining—and would thus containerize. The numbers are equal, and containerizing is not really a middle ground option, so I would be supervoting if I closed this as anything other than NC. That being said, a fresh CFD without merging in the nomination, solely focused on containerizing, might find consensus, so there is no prejudice against speedy renomination. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 00:09, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: I'm not sure if this is defining. At the very least I think that category should be containerized. SMasonGarrison 04:48, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Keep. Of course this is a defining trait, if a fictional character is killed off and stays dead, that's very narratively important. You can't even think of what target page to merge with, this is just another frivolous nomination for the sake of it as usual. AHI-3000 (talk) 04:54, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please assume good faith. For the record, bringing a category for discussion because questions about its merits isn't frivolous. Having the discussion is worthwhile, regardless of the outcome. If it decided to be keep, then this case is one you @AHI-3000 can point to when others have questions. SMasonGarrison 13:41, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I would leave the name as is since the category mentioned above is part of the Category:Japanese legendary creatures which itself is part of the Category:East Asian legendary creatures, etc. There are countless categories for legendary creatures from various cultures and all of them would need to be renmamed for sake of consistency. Seeing as the general article about the topic all those categories have in common is also called Legendary creature and not mythological or mythical creature, I think that this term should have precedence. The result of the discussion was: no consensus. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 23:26, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Violates WP:TRIVIALCAT; being male is too trivial and broad a characteristic for a suicide category Songwaters (talk) 04:00, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Delete. This is not a meaningfully defining trait and I see no meaningful navigational utility in this category. silviaASH (inquire within) 14:46, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Everything that Drmies said is correct. Who is to say it is not a useful navigational tool, and there a plenty of categories on Wikipedia with broad characteristics as their basis, . If the Category Female suicides exists than so should Male suicides. Suicide among males is a subject of interest to many people and a subject of much debate, that in and of itself should be reason enough to keep the category.

The result of the discussion was: manual merge. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 23:27, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Overlapping, we don't tend to make the distinction between if the diagnosis is formal, as long as they're being regularlly described as being autistic SMasonGarrison 13:13, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 23:29, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Single-member category. The series of Pharaohs by dynasty already omits Seventh Dynasty of Egypt and Twenty-seventh Dynasty of Egypt for different reasons. No further merger is necessary as the member page is already within 5th & 4th century BC pharaohs. – Fayenatic London 10:50, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Upmerge single-member categories, not very useful for navigation. It is not as if the series of dynasties is complete within Ancient Egyptian princesses or Ancient Egyptian queens consort. – Fayenatic London 10:28, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Isolated categories with 1 member each. The member pages are already in Category:Ancient Asian women writers, so a third merge target of women writers is not needed. – Fayenatic London 08:30, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 23:30, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Fails WP:NONDEF, Mega Evolutions are tangential to their notability. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 01:01, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Delete since the bulk of Mega Evos don't really contribute anything to subject notability, making it not very helpful for navigation. I do feel the subject has potential for an article, but that's a subject for another time. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 18:21, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
