  • It is impossible to have such an impression because after the merge all murders in YYYY, across the globe, are still in Category:YYYY murders. The only impression one will get is that we have more articles about 18th/19th century murders in Europe than in other continents, and that is just a fact. Merge, as the creator. Truthfully I created those categories a while ago when I did not read the aforementioned guidelines, and I now think they are not necessary. Therefore I think Category:State of the Union addresses by President should be deleted since its only purpose is to regroup the categories nominated for merging here (I don't think it would be a good idea for me to do this procedure myself since I do not contribute on EN-wiki on a regular basis). Support proposed merge. Even if the title occurs sometimes, let's remember that wikipedia is the only encyclopedia in history that doesn't just cover prominent monarchs, it is presumed to cover every monarch, i.e. for every historical period, and for every monarchy, with very few exceptions. so therefore the category should use a general label, not a specific title that only occured on a limited basis, in some countries or in only some eras. Either keep it, or else rename to a useful synonym, such as Dixiecrats. the existence of Southern Democrats as a conservative faction was absolutely an established and major historical fact. it needs to remain firmly in the historical record. we need to keep this label in place, to preserve wikipedia's historical content for future decades. right now, this label is as recent as the 1980s, so it is routinely familiar to any current students of politics; however, that will not always be the case, in five or six decades from now. we need to retain this label. --Sm8900 (talk) 02:28, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
