- Delete, mere membership of an organization is hardly ever a defining characteristic. We can have categories for chairs though. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:42, 4 March 2025 (UTC)
- Keep With this logic, could this not also apply to categories of university alumni? Editchecker123 (talk) 23:15, 4 March 2025 (UTC)
- Interesting point. Maybe yes. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:30, 5 March 2025 (UTC)
- I believe there is a difference. Simply belonging to a fraternity does not define a level of involvement and, therefore, may or may not be a defining characteristic. However, graduating from a college or university does specify a certain level of activity and can also define an individual's academic focus. Thus, being an alumnus is a defining characteristic. - Keep: Membership in these organizations is for life and is commonly mentioned in biographies and obituaries. Granted it is weak, but these categories do meet the threshold for a defining characteristic, rather than a trivial characteristic, especially when reviewing the examples provided in WP:NONDEF. Furthermore, these categories are not an arbitrary or fabricated grouping. Many books have been published that list membership in either specific or collective Greek letter organizations.
