May 10

Category:Ambassadors of England to the Mughal Empire

Nominator's rationale: merge, only two articles in the category and parent Category:English expatriates in the Mughal Empire is equally sparse. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:41, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time

Nominator's rationale: Inclusion of an album on a list is not a defining characteristic, particularly considering there have been multiple versions of Rolling Stone's list over the years. Also, this category fails WP:TOPTEN and is even the example given for categories that fail that criteria. Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talkcontributions) 21:45, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Models from Shimane Prefecture

Nominator's rationale: Category with just one entry. Lost in Quebec (talk) 20:08, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Kerala Award Winners

Nominator's rationale: If kept, would be renamed Kerala Award winners and become a shell category with no articles. Parent would be Category:Kerala awards and its subcats would populate this category. Gjs238 (talk) 20:05, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Geopolitical rivalry

Nominator's rationale: WP:ARBITRARYCAT, WP:SUBJECTIVECAT. We could include any and all wars, diplomatic incidents, technological races etc. in this category by claiming these are all manifestations of "geopolitical rivalry", two words that are extremely vague, subjective and open to libraries full of interpretations. Best get rid of it all.
Alt proposal: manually upmerge few, Purge the rest: At most, I would suggest strictly, manually upmerging the few articles that contain the word 'rivalry' in the title to parent Category:Rivalry. Those would be Austro-Prussian rivalry, Danish–Hanseatic rivalry, French–Habsburg rivalry, and possibly French–German enmity. And then we Purge all other articles and subcategories that are not about "rivalry" as such. NLeeuw (talk) 18:50, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:International Confederation of Labor

Nominator's rationale: Requesting a change to the English variation of this category. The organisation itself uses the variant "International Confederation of Labour" (see About page and Introduction on website). It also gets wider usage in scholarly sources, with 5 results on Google Scholar for "Labour", and 2 for "Labor". Grnrchst (talk) 15:56, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm the creator of this category and I only used American English to be consistent with the now-redirected article for the ICL–CIT so it doesn't make any difference to me. Charles Essie (talk) 16:07, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Explorers of Ayodhya

Nominator's rationale: delete, the single article is already in Category:Explorers of South Asia and that broader category makes more sense for this article. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:25, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Fishers

Nominator's rationale: rename per article title Fisherman. I have not listed this for speedy renaming because people might object that this excludes women. However "women fishermen" seems to be valid too. Presumably when this goes ahead the subcategories can be speedied. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:12, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
do we know why it's called fishers? Jahaza (talk) 01:52, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mike Selinker is the apparently still active category creator. Jahaza (talk) 01:55, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That was in 2006. If I had to guess, it might have been because Category:Fictional fishers existed and I thought it needed a container category. Mike Selinker (talk) 02:57, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:21st-century Indian child actors

Nominator's rationale: I think diffusing an occupation you age out of by century is helpful for navigation. It's too each to accidentally remove them from the parent century category. I recommend upmerging these two. Notably, there is no 21st-century child actresses category. SMasonGarrison 14:16, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Dynasties of Medieval Andhradesa

Nominator's rationale: rename, unnecessary capitalization of medieval. Change Andhradesa to Andhra per article title Coastal Andhra. This was part of a wider discussion at speedy. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:03, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Places in mythology

Nominator's rationale: rename, nearly all subcategories are called "locations" and "locations" is used more than "places" generally, see Category:Categories by location. This was opposed for speedy. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:22, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Africa, Asia and Europe are locations, but they aren't places. Marcocapelle (talk) 02:41, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcocapelle: How are continents not places? Place and location are synonymous. OED defines place as "A particular part or region of space; a physical locality, a locale; a spot, a location. Also: a region or part of the earth's surface." Cambridge Dictionary defines location as "a place or position". If anything, I'd say location conveys more specificity in terms of a precise place, and I'd be less likely to call a continent a location. Mclay1 (talk) 12:41, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

American cities in fiction

Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only one subcategory each. Marcocapelle (talk) 03:36, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:National flag of Mexico

Nominator's rationale: Highly overlapping with the parent category. SMasonGarrison 01:48, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge, while there is a theoretical distinction it does not really make sense in practice to keep it apart. We do not do this for other countries either as far as I can see. Marcocapelle (talk) 02:57, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Mind.in.a.box albums

Nominator's rationale: I created this category ten years ago when the albums had articles. They have since all been redirected to the group's article, making this category now useless. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 00:38, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
