Nominator's rationale: redundant category layer. upmerge for now SMasonGarrison 23:30, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Organisations designated as cults

Nominator's rationale: Overlapping with Cults of personality and New religious movements; and vaguely defined. Notably Category:Cults disambiguates. SMasonGarrison 22:51, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Delete what authority designated these? If it had one, it should be in the title. I assume the category was going for France, but the French do not have a cult designation system. They had a fee reports written by a politician thirty years ago that listed cults, but that isn’t a “designation” in the legal sense, it was the opinion of one person. MIVILUDES does not have a list. Cult as a legal designation with a specific definition group does not exist outside of China. There is no process to designate something as a cult in France... someone saying in a judgement that a group is a cult does not legally designate someone as something, much as someone being called a terrorist in a legal judgement does not designate someone as a terrorist entity. Being included on a single list that was never updated is not equivalent to what China has (they have a continuously updated system of cults a la terrorist designation) or to a terrorist designation. Being included in a single work is not defining per WP:CATDEF (I wish it was, because I think the organizations included in the first cult list are pretty interesting, but it violates catdef). If the French had a similar process to China that was continually updated we could make it “organizations designated as cults by France”, but they do not have a list. Category:Archaeological museums in the Balkans

Nominator's rationale: Redundant category layer. I don't think we need to bundle specific kinds of museums in the balkans. SMasonGarrison 22:08, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Local Now affiliates

Nominator's rationale: There are currently no affiliates for this network anymore. This is mostly a FAST channel now. OWaunTon (talk) 19:41, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. There are three pages in the category. SMasonGarrison 22:10, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but they no longer affiliated with the network. OWaunTon (talk) 00:31, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Positiv affiliates

Nominator's rationale: WP:OVERCAT; almost all of these stations are already under Category:Trinity Broadcasting Network stations. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 19:36, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:TBN Inspire affiliates

Category:Lists of American people by ethnicity

Nominator's rationale: Most of the contents belong under Category:American people by descent rather than ethnicity. – Fayenatic London 16:14, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Los Angeles Camera Club

Nominator's rationale: Not defining. The subject of the category is a redirect. Lost in Quebec (talk) 13:01, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:63rd Street (Manhattan)

Nominator's rationale: Delete for now. There is only one building in this category. SMasonGarrison 12:00, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Fabrizio Faniello songs

Nominator's rationale: Only two known entries, both of which are redirects, with no other known entries to populate this category. Category is therefore essentially redundant. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 11:27, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Two Tricky songs

Nominator's rationale: Only one entry, which is itself a redirect, and main subject of the category (Two Tricky) is also a redirect. Category is therefore for all intents and purposes redundant. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 11:26, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Countries results at Manhunt International

Nominator's rationale: Only one template in here SMasonGarrison 03:53, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Flemish expatriates in Italy

Nominator's rationale: merge, poorly populated category and besides Italy did not exist yet and Flemish is very imprecise. The latter should be "from the Spanish Netherlands" if it would exist - but it doesn't. So Holy Roman Empire is the next level. Marcocapelle (talk) 02:29, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Mister International Philippines

Nominator's rationale: Overlapping categories SMasonGarrison 02:27, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge, they are obviously duplicates. Marcocapelle (talk) 02:34, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep and clarify distinction: I can understand your saying "obviously", but Mister International Philippines 2024 is not a duplicate of Mister International 2024 (Philippines). The competition split into two factions in 2023. See the intro paragraph at Mister International (Philippines) and second paragraph of Mister International 2022. I don't fully understand the timing as Mister International Philippines 2022 (held in June 2022) states that it was inaugural, whereas the other pages state that the split happened the next year. – Fayenatic London 13:35, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm... do we have any other examples of categories that have made similar splits? I'd love to not reinvent the wheel. SMasonGarrison 13:46, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, just to be clear—the page story represents a series of organizational disputes to provide context. It began in 2022 at the Mister International 2022 pageant in the Philippines, around October. The event was conducted by the Philippines' national director, Manuel Deldio. At that time in history the pageant appeared to be operating normally. Pradinut of Thailand and Deldio of the Philippines were both national directors in their respective countries and were reportedly close at the time to the founder of the pageant Alan Sim who created Mister International in 2006 in Singapore. That was also the time in history that the Philippines had the Vice President position in the Mister International organization. The problems began in October of 2022, when the founder, Alan Sim, died. Both parties took that as the point of conflict, each claiming to be the rightful owner of the pageant. In 2023, each party had a press conference to assert their claims of leadership. The side of the Philippines argued that Alan had passed along the leadership to them, since Deldio was in the line of Succession as Vice President. The side of Thailand claimed that the leadership was passed along to Pradinut, since he was a close friend of Sim. To bolster their positions, the Philippine side continued utilizing the legacy Mister International logo, stating it was for the legacy, while the Thailand side had a new logo for a new chapter of the pageant. In 2023 both sides had separate editions of the pageant. In the Philippines, this was reflected in the Mister International Philippines 2023 national pageant, produced through the Mister International brand claimed by Deldio. Mister Pilipinas Worldwide sent a representative to the version in Thailand. Essentially, I made the categories separately distinguishing them with the identifiers "(Philippines)" and "(Thailand)" to delineate them from the two existing international pageants. The Mister International Philippines category is different from Mister International (Philippines) - they are related, but not the same. 🌼𝓡𝓬 𝓡𝓪𝓶𝔃🍁 (talk) 23:13, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Beauty pageants in Great Britain

Nominator's rationale: Overlapping categories. This one is underpopulated. SMasonGarrison 02:20, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Robert A. Welch Foundation

Nominator's rationale: These two pages are already interlinked. The pages are the founder and the foundation. SMasonGarrison 01:50, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Psychedelics, dissociatives and deliriants

Nominator's rationale: (1) Consistency with category main article name of "hallucinogen". (2) "Hallucinogen" is a well-established scientific term for this class of drugs whereas the current category name of "psychedelics, dissociatives and deliriants" is just a list of three subtypes of hallucinogens. (3) Not all hallucinogens fall into the subgroups of psychedelics, dissociatives, and deliriants, so "hallucinogens" would be a much better-suited category name for those instances.
