- Please could someone create an SVG version of the current Swiss Guard flag? Notable changes from the former flag is the swapping of the blue and red stripes in the top right corner, and the coat of arms of the current commander in the centre. Also the shield in the bottom left corner ought to be the same colour as the blue in the stripes. Thank you! -- Mangwanani (talk) 15:17, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

- Hi! I was wondering if someone can kindly please vectorize two proposed flags of Macau? In the Macau Museum, there is an exhibit of flag designs that were purposed for the city for Macau in 1993 for use starting in 1999 when Macau was handed over from Portugal to China. The website Flags Of The World (FOTW) shows the flags featured in the exhibit and there were 15 in total. You can see the flags on FOTW by clicking on the link here https://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/mo!.html. 13 of those flags are now vectorized and are on the articles listed above. That means that there are only two flags left which are the flags listed on FOTW as Proposal No. 2 https://www.fotw.info/images/m/mo!2.gif and Proposal No. 14 https://www.fotw.info/images/m/mo!14.gif. Can those two flags linked please get vectorized and added to the articles? I'll be grateful to see them done. Thanks in advance. --93.107.203.142 (talk) 21:08, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

- For now I don't see the point in changing colours. It is not uncommon that different sellers of flags use different colours. I've looked at a whole series of photos of new Syrian flags. They show different shades of gray/black and lighter/darker green, because of the (see through or not) materials used and the amount of sun that falls on the flag. Yes there are photos with a seemingly lighter green version, but there are darker green versions too. These designs seem to all refer to the usual colours of earlier versions of the Flag of Syria. However, if you have an official source stating that particular different green should be used in the new flag, we would of course change it accordingly. Groetjes, Peter (talk) 11:40, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Groetjes, Peter: there are no official colors and proportions for Syrian flag, especially during these period. So it is good to have variants of it here (like we have variants of the previous flag). Panam2014 (talk) 12:11, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Don't get me wrong, I understand your excitement about the changes in Syria. I hope with all my heart that they finally get a long time of peace and prosperity. Again, we don't need a picture of all colour differences due to material use, glossy, mat, fluffy, faded due to the sun, etcetera. It's really overkill if we'd have to make colour variants for all flags of the world. Flag of Syria shows that the used colour palette is actually pretty persistent. Groetjes, Peter (talk) 12:23, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- I understand. But for others countries, generally, colors and proportions are fixed by law. light green version is used since years. Panam2014 (talk) 12:50, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Again, you show me a picture of a faded flag: light green - pink - gray. Colours do fade, whether it is by weathering or by technical lighting causes while taking a photo. To me it would feel disrespectful to the people, if I'd draw such a faded flag. A new flag would be green - red - black. I've already discussed the range of colours, and why it doesn't make sense to repeat ourselves. Groetjes, Peter (talk) 14:29, 13 December 2024 (UTC)

Decrapify (vectorize?) this
- Article(s)
- Equivalent radius
- Request
- Decrapify (vectorize?) this. What is important is that both figures have the same areas, the exact dimension don't matter so much (and could be left out).
Radius is calculated with . Diameter is twice the radius.
Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 20:53, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Headbomb I'm thinking of taking this but I made some tests and I don't understand which radius it should be in the area figure. It's not the width or the hight so which? If I take the radius from the circle it doesn't fir anywhere in the area, so please explain?
- I think this is a very important part of understanding this and should be shown in the illustration. --always ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 12:54, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Goran tek-en: What's important is that the blob and the circle have the same area. What I did was make a blob, find how many pixels it covered (64749). I then made a circle with the same number of pixels (roughly). The way I did it was to calculate the diameter (), so I made a circle with of diameter 287 pixels. I did that in paint, and saved in it .png form.
- I'm looking for the essentially same thing, but cleaned up/vectorized. The shape of the blob doesn't really matter, so long as the blob and circle have the same area (it doesn't have to be exact exact, but to a reasonable accuracy. My above example has 64749 pixels (blob) vs ~64692 pixels (circle), which is about 0.1% off). See alt picture I just uploaded. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 13:13, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- I think you will find this useful - https://stackoverflow.com/questions/50050279/get-the-value-of-the-area-deduced-from-the-path-info-of-a-svg - once you calculate the area of a random SVG shape (convex polygon though) - you could back-calculate the circle radius. - An interactive SVG? User:Cmglee Shyamal (talk) 14:05, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- I can't see how to make it interactive with pure CSS/SMIL. This is beyond what SVG can do without JavaScript:
- The user can sketch a closed shape.
- It is rasterised into a small squares.
- Each square is moved to a blank part of the canvas as a disc spiraling out from its centre, leaving the outline of the user's shape.
- When all squares are moved, a best-fit circle is drawn around the ragged disc.
- The area-equivalent radius is drawn, labelled and moved next to the user's shape outline.

Area=108042px2

- b) pixels don't square
- c) a grayscale image is probably better than blues and oranges
- d) The decimal should be a
.
not a,
- e) a one or two decimal precision is fine (185.45 px or 185.4 px) [the exact radius value for 108042 pixel area is 185.44766...]
- f) diameter (370.90 px or 370.9 px ) should also be indicated on the circle

- Colour costs more when printed, and I find orange / blue is a particular strange combination for illustrations. It usually looks bad when printed in greyscale.
- The greyscale version looks good. Only thing I'd change is put spaces around the = signs, and use a full line for diameter, and dashed line for radius. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 15:29, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

Bumping thread. MrPersonHumanGuy (talk) 15:23, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- I am requesting an overwrite of the file. But it seems "looses" is not incorrect in this context which would mean "releases". ~~ J. Dann 12:29, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- I'm sure the verb you're thinking of is loosens with an N, which would imply that the Sun's grip (so to speak) would be getting weaker. – MrPersonHumanGuy (talk) 17:04, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not so sure about that. It's possible to "lose mass" as a star's gravity weakens and the gas escapes as well. "Loosen mass" doesn't sound like a correct phrase. A preliminary web search seems to back that up. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 17:58, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

- This is a raster image and not a vector illustration. The latter format would be a better option for such infographics. Nevertheless, the correction has been attempted. Shyamal (talk) 09:54, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

Modified version of an SVG diagram
{{resolved}} Thanks. The modified image is now in use at Determinant. JonH (talk) 15:38, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- The area of the parallelogram is the absolute value of the determinant of the matrix formed by the vectors representing the parallelogram's sides.

- Determinant
- Request
- Please create a modified version of "Area parallellogram as determinant.svg" with changes to two of the labels: from "(a, b)" to "(a, c)" and from "(c, d)" to "(b, d)". These are small changes, but I do not know how to make them.
- The reason for changing the letters was discussed at Talk:Determinant/Archive_3#Using_column_vectors_to_represent_points and, although that has been archived, I still intend to make a straightforward change to the text of the article and need a modified diagram.
- The modified diagram needs a new name because the diagram is used in 35 wikis in different languages, and the editors of those wikis would need to make corresponding changes to their text before they could use the new diagram. Note that the correct spelling is "parallelogram". -- JonH (talk) 13:35, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

Hello, Snow Lion! Request taken by —RCraig09 (talk) 22:57, 26 January 2025 (UTC).
- I've completed and uploaded the SVG version of the flag. However, I usually upload my own or licensed graphics to Commons, and I was unsure about how to properly claim fair use under copyright law for a UK flag. Can someone please complete that portion of the file description page? Thanks. —RCraig09 (talk) 07:21, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- @RCraig09: Thank you, it looks great! And yes, I'll see if I can add a relevant CR tag to it, based on other files representing town and village flags from throughout the U.K. Thanks again! Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 13:26, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- Fantastico. Your attempt to upload to Commons was reverted for copyright reasons. After some research, I added the "Template:Non-free symbol" and fair use rationales for the two existing uses. I couldn't find a template specific for flags. All is well, now, methinks. —RCraig09 (talk) 17:16, 27 January 2025 (UTC)

- I've just converted the original PDF to a PNG that has more pixels. I also increased sharpness a bit, and brightened a little. As it's an original artwork, I didn't want to make large changes. Please let me know if this change is acceptable. —RCraig09 (talk) 15:35, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
- Separately: PNG files are larger in bytes than JPG files. If an original PDF photograph is not very clear to begin with, it's usually best to upload JPG. —RCraig09 (talk) 16:09, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
