This page documents an English Wikipedia content guideline. Editors should generally follow it, though exceptions may apply. Substantive edits to this page should reflect consensus. |
| This page in a nutshell: Don't use large language models such as AI chatbots to generate or rewrite article content. |
The use of large language models (LLMs) to generate or rewrite article content is strictly prohibited except for the uses as outlined below.
LLM-generated text often violates several of Wikipedia's core content policies, and can be produced at a rate that makes review by other editors infeasible.
Persistent use of large language models outside of the above exceptions is considered disruptive and will result in an editor being blocked from editing. The writing style of some editors may appear similar to the output of LLMs, meaning that the imposition of sanctions requires evidence beyond basic stylistic or linguistic indications. When evaluating possible LLM use, it is best to consider the full pattern of the editor's recent edits and whether the edits comply with core content policies.
