Wikipedia:Proposed naming conventions (Catholicism)
![]() | This is a failed proposal. Consensus for its implementation was not established within a reasonable period of time. If you want to revive discussion, please use the talk page or initiate a thread at the village pump. |
![]() | This page in a nutshell: The terms Catholic Church and Catholic are acceptable names for the worldwide church in full communion with the Pope in Rome. Although branch theory-derived objections tend to be rejected along WP:FRINGE lines, what settles the WP:CONSENSUS is WP:PRIMARYUSAGE. Article names, and by consequence its content, should not be changed from this convention without strong reason. |

These naming conventions regarding the Catholic Church is a collection of guidelines on how to name Wikipedia articles about the Catholic Church, as well as associated people and entities. It is offered as a central point of reference.
Background: failed 2017 naming convention proposal
The background of the former draft was summerised as below, on the situation across Wikipedia with inexisting, centralised naming convention. Until a more accurate understanding is proposed, this is what is offered:
Working todards a new draft: Introduction
After Wikipedia:Proposed naming conventions (Catholic Church) failed, discussion about it went on at 1) Wikipedia_talk:Proposed_naming_conventions_(Catholic_Church)#Cuius_regio.2C_eius_religio, and 2) User talk:andrewa/Roman or catholic#Possible new proposal name.
To refocus the discussion again, this naming convention draft article emerged as a centralized location where on the talk page there is room to discuss the possible revival or modification of a new proposal, suggestibly taking into account the former failed proposal.
