There has been a bit of nasty talking between Legacypac and User:HiLo48. Legacypac reported HiLo48 to WP:ANI here which resulted in a BLP ban against Legacypac. Both Legacypac and the IP have argued on Talk:2013 Cleveland, Ohio, missing trio, claim that HiLo48's arguements are fringe theories. Legacpac and the IP rarely sign their arguments, and neither indent, and both attack the same person and ignore BLP guidelines. Legacypacs diffs are here [1] [2] [3] IPs are here [4] [5] [6] The IP made personal attacks both before and after Legacypac was given a one year BLP ban Martin451 (talk) 00:29, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
The diff for the IP I meant to include[7] Martin451 (talk) 00:58, 15 May 2013 (UTC) The edits made by the IP included some personal attacks. If they are the same logged out user, then they are attempting to circumvent a ban on editing anything to do with BLP [8] Martin451 (talk) 02:51, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

I did not write the comments linked (the IP ones). I am no expert at tracing IPs but they are not my IP in British Columbia and I would think that someone that knows what they are doing can prove that. Occasionally I forget to sign posts (signing stuff is unnecessary in the forum I'm an admin in and most else I do online), but I always correct that with an edit. I have absolutely no reason to hide what I say on Wikipedia or anywhere else. Legacypac (talk) 00:53, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- The IP is a static one that geolocates to Tokyo, Japan. Doc talk 00:57, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- Close as unlikely. Inadvertent edits while logged out would not be SP, even if they did match. Apteva (talk) 01:03, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- This is a static IP in Tokyo on Open Computer Network. You could've checked that before filing here. I think someone owes Legacy an apology. ;) --76.189.109.155 (talk) 01:20, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- Agree with Apteva and IP 76.--Epeefleche (talk) 01:24, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- But not with me, huh?

- And with Doc (of course) ... whose edit I missed because it was formatted differently (without an asterisk), when I wrote my comment (though I read it before writing my comment).--Epeefleche (talk) 02:38, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

- The only thing I orignally wondered about is if a proxy is involved. But I knew that checkusers don't normally try to match a registered user to an IP because of privacy rules. --76.189.109.155 (talk) 04:59, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- While I have heard of using server proxies on TV, I have no idea how to do that. I did just google "what is my IP" and got an answer that on several websites I checked places my computer correctly in my town and is very different than the IP identified as a Tokyo IP above. I also read several linked pages here but most of it is computer speak to me. It looks like maybe I can request a checkuser to look at my IP and maybe other activity? I have no issue with some trusted user looking into my activity/IP/whatever as I have nothing to hide. Many editors have expressed frustration with the editor I requested a IBAN on to keep him away from harassing me and tone down the hostility, so why am I being singled out here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Legacypac (talk • contribs) 07:46, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- The jury's still out on the CU thing. I'm not seeing a connection: but mostly based on a "hunch" (as in the old-school "gut-feeling" thing). I've certainly been wrong before. Technical evidence will be the final say, I suppose. Doc talk 08:02, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- Legacy said, "It looks like maybe I can request a checkuser to look at my IP". Sorry, but checkusers will not do that. Btw, don't forget to sign all your comments. I strongly suggest that you and User:HiLo48 stay away from each other. This ongoing hostility between the two of you needs to stop. 76.189.109.155 (talk) 11:41, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- Would it help if I posted my IP address here? I have no interest in interacting with that user ever again. Only because I am being accused of using a sock puppet against him is this discussion happening. What a pain in my ass. Legacypac (talk) 19:16, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- No, do not post your IP. It wouldn't prove anything anyway and the checkusers of course already have access to it. For the record, many socks use proxies, which can be located anywhere in the world. I recall one very persistent editor who was on a new proxy IP practically every day, continually harrassing other edtiors, including admins, on their talk pages. Every time s/he'd pop up, an admin would block within minutes. I believe the editor was based in Georgia (U.S.) and his/her sock IPs were located in almost every continent. ;) All I know is that IP 153 shows Japan as the location and he speaks very good English. And s/he's very interested in the Cleveland kidnappings article. 76.189.109.155 (talk) 21:11, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- So I suppose there is no way to defend myself against a false accusation and no consequences for making a false accusation against me, and any editor can say nasty things about me with no action against them. Gotta love Wikipedia. aybe I should just quit and leave the nastiness to others. Legacypac (talk) 00:38, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- I do think it would be good if we were to know the percentage of time that peoples' nominations are good. Whether for this, AfD, move, or a similar process. And then consider what we do about those whose nominations are worst.--Epeefleche (talk) 00:48, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- Legacy, there's absolutely no need to defend yourself. You have no obligation to do so. If it's not you, you simply say "It's not me" and move on. Or you just ignore it. ;) 76.189.109.155 (talk) 06:50, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Clerk, CheckUser, and/or patrolling admin comments
Clerk declined - A Checkuser will not make a connection between a registered user and an IP address. Any connection will have to be made using behavioral evidence. Dennis Brown - 2¢ - © - @ - Join WER 03:46, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Clerk note: I would like another clerk to take a look. They are free to email as well, via WP:BEANS. I see some technical similarities that I simply can not ignore, but would like a second option. Dennis Brown - 2¢ - © - @ - Join WER 04:27, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
