The Bacon Challenge 2011 is an international celebration of bacon and bacon alternatives that is open to everyone. The Challenge was kicked off by ChildofMidnight on March 2, 2010 and will conclude in a gluttonous extravaganza of sizzling, smoking hot (and sometimes room temperature), salty, and sometimes saucy bounty on National Pig Day 2011.

The third annual Bacon Challenge event continues the Baconpallooza tradition on Wikipedia with the collaborative creation of bacon articles, bacon DYK noms and illustrious bacon photography. So strip down and get ready to sizzle!!!

Dedicated to The Legendary Sky Attacker
A good friend and colleague who gave his all to the Bacon Challenge until his heart gave out.

The plan

As much bacon related content as possible. This is open to wide interpretation; restaurants that serve bacon, imitation bacon alternatives, authors writing about bacon, books and notable writings that discuss bacon, bacon oriented artists and artworks, non-food related bacon uses and products, companies involved with bacon, and of course bacon foods are all welcome (it is unclear whether people and places named Bacon qualify, but this event is pretty Ignore All the Rules friendly, so we'll see what happens...).

Rules

The really aren't many rules, except for...

  • The focus of this challenge is to create, expand, and improve bacon related material.
  • There are two options for creating articles.
    • New articles and DYK noms may be worked up in sandboxes and held until February 1 when they can be moved to mainspace en masse and put up at a special event DYK section. This allows the nominations and articles to go up all at once for a grand official bacon debut heading into their March 1, 2010 debut.
    • Articles may also be sent live for an immediate bacon rush. There will always be people ready to scoop up any bacon they come across, and when it comes to bacon, it can be hard to wait.

Bacon WikiCup 2011

The Bacon WikiCup 2011, modeled after the Wikipedia WikiCup, is a side event to the Bacon Challenge 2011 where all bacon-related contributions are recorded and scored in a competition to see who can create and expand the most content. The top contributor will walk away with the Bacon WikiCup 2011 Trophy, and all other participants will earn a spiffy medal.
