Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Honduras
![]() | Points of interest related to Honduras on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Stubs |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Honduras. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Honduras|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Honduras. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Declined prod. All the sources provided are databases/results listings. Nothing in depth to meet WP:SPORTSCRIT. I don't believe her medal in the Central American Games is enough to satisfy WP:NATH. LibStar (talk) 00:29, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Sportspeople, Women, Sport of athletics, and Honduras. LibStar (talk) 00:29, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Keep, the Central American Games marathon medal satisfies WP:NATH prong 1,
"Finished top 8 in a competition at the highest level outside of the Olympic Games and world championships"
. There's no doubt that there's more coverage in Honduran media, which is sadly notoriously difficult to access per List of newspapers in Honduras#Newspapers:
- El Caribe: No archives before 2011
- Honduras This Week: Website not functional
- El Periódico (Honduras): No archives before 2016
- La Prensa (Honduras): Website not easily navigable but does not seem to have articles from before the mid-2000s
- El Tiempo (Honduras): Does not seem to archive news before 2023
- La Tribuna (Honduras): Website not easily navigable but does not seem to have articles from before the mid-2000s
- Do you see the issue here? Notability is always determined by the existence of coverage, not its presence in the article. --Habst (talk) 02:26, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Weak Keep. This person won a medal at the Central American Games, and according to WP:SPORTSCRIT sigcov may exist. As stated by Habst, it is difficult to find sources, but based on their reasoning and my own research, I am voting weak keep. Weak bc we haven't found good sigcov yet, but it probably exists. AnonymousScholar49 (talk) 02:40, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- "according to WP:SPORTSCRIT sigcov may exist" - what do you mean by that? Geschichte (talk) 05:56, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, SPORTSCRIT requires sigcov to exist, not the other way around. LibStar (talk) 06:12, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Geschichte, I think the user meant "according to WP:NSPORTS" (many people confuse NSPORTS and SPORTCRIT), which says that SIGCOV is likely to exist for subjects meeting NATH. --Habst (talk) 12:16, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- "according to WP:SPORTSCRIT sigcov may exist" - what do you mean by that? Geschichte (talk) 05:56, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Comment. Another preposterous statement by the user Habst, who regrettably shows a severe lack of competence in the subject, in claiming that the Central American Games (not to be confused with the larger Central American and Caribbean Games) belongs to the "highest level outside of the Olympic Games and world championships". I am actually ashamed by the audacity displayed in making such an outlandish claim. Geschichte (talk) 05:55, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Geschichte, are you in a position to !vote on this AfD, since you have reviewed the AfD and article? LibStar (talk) 06:13, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Geschichte, I think that contributions are more important than personal statements so I appreciate your contributions even when we disagree. Even if you think that prong 1 doesn't apply, then surely NATH prong 2
"Finished top 3 in any other major senior-level international competition (this includes prestigious small field meets, e.g., IAAF Diamond League/IAAF Golden League meets, less-prestigious large-scale meets, e.g., Asian Games, and any IAAF Gold Label Road Race that is not explicitly mentioned above)"
would? Generally, it's been understood to include most international medals as tracked by athleticspodium.com which the Central American Games are. --Habst (talk) 12:13, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Comment These athletics AFDs are becoming such a personal issue between two editors that surely it is time for some sort of mediation to take place. It is the same arguments over and over again. One editor appears determined to delete as many athletics bio stubs as they can and the other is equally determined to save every bio by claiming coverage must exist somewhere from sometime in some publication that may be in an archive somewhere but none of which can be proved. This all seems way out of line with the Wikipedia mission statement. Anxioustoavoid (talk) 20:24, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Anxioustoavoid, I agree with this and am open to any discussion about a solution even if it's not the one I prefer. --Habst (talk) 20:19, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- Keep per Habst. Gamaliel (talk) 23:05, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- WP:PERX, no argument presented for keeping. LibStar (talk) 23:34, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Per WP:PERX,
"If the rationale provided in a comment includes a comprehensive argument, specific policy references and/or a compelling presentation of evidence in favour of keeping or deletion, an endorsement of that argument may be sufficient."
. There's nothing wrong with saying "per X" in that case. --Habst (talk) 00:41, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- Per WP:PERX,
- WP:PERX, no argument presented for keeping. LibStar (talk) 23:34, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Redirect to Athletics at the 2001 Central American Games#Women as an alternative to deletion – WP:WHYN and WP:SPORTCRIT both respectively state that "
We require the existence of at least one secondary source so that the article can comply with Wikipedia:No original research's requirement that all articles be based on secondary sources.
" and that "All sports biographies [...] must include at least one reference to a source providing significant coverage of the subject, excluding database sources. [...]
" The sources provided in the article do not help in establishing notability since they are composed of database listings and game results (hence they are not secondary). Searches performed on (but not limited to) Google or Newspapers.com didn't turn up any sources that would help establish notability (mostly because they seem to show other people with the same name as the athlete in question). To quote WP:NSPORTS:We have no sources that provide proof that WP:GNG is met, hence, looking at what we currently have, there doesn't seem to be enough to satisfy WP:GNG. Aviationwikiflight (talk) 12:36, 9 May 2025 (UTC) - Redirect to Athletics at the 2001 Central American Games#Women: Like the nom, I'm not finding the needed coverage for this subject to meet the notability guidelines. WP:SPORTSCRIT requires at least one non-database source that provides significant coverage, and that simply doesn't appear to be the case here. A search elsewhere also came up empty for sources to meet the notability guidelines. Redirect as a WP:ATD with the page history preserved in the event coverage can be found in the future.
