Three presidents and an aide
For my upcoming article. The page numbers are unspecified here because I don't know which pages have my desired information. I want the part from November 1971 when, in China, Rahim Khan and Gul Hassan had a secret conversation about the political instability in Pakistan. Also, I need specific page numbers for them.
Thanks, Mehedi Abedin 17:05, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Mehedi Abedin: Here's something like a table of contents of the book. Maybe it helps you to specify the chapters. – Doc Taxon • Talk • 17:57, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Doc Taxon I read the table of contents before making the request and unfortunately it didn’t help. Mehedi Abedin 19:12, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Mehedi Abedin, the chapter which has the details you're looking for is "The Conspiracy", pages 191–211. Google Books randomly changes the pages it allows for previews, so you should be able to get those pages after hitting refresh for some time. If not, then you will have to visit the libraries where the book is available. Matarisvan (talk) 12:23, 19 January 2025 (UTC)

Evidence that 1917 photo was published in a newspaper prior to 1930?
Regarding this photo in Wiki Commons: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1917_Silent_Parade_men_H.tiff
That photo is needed for the WP article Silent Parade. Is it possible to discover if this photo was published prior to 1930? Specifically: was the photo used in any newspaper or magazine prior to 1930?
The photo documents an event that happened on July 28, 1917 ... so the photo would most likely appear in a newspaper on July 29, 1917. or soon therefter.
The event was in New York City, but it was widely publicized, so the photo might be published in a newspaper from any city in the U.S.
I know you all primarily work with articles & publications, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Maybe there is someway to do a "backward search" from the photo into newspaper archives?
For Silent Parade

- Closest thing I could find on Newspapers.com was a different, wider angle of your school children one. I did find this Alamy entry though, which states it is PD, but doesn't provide an original publication source, so I'm not sure. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 04:37, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
- Noleander Your photo (or rather an uncropped version of your photo) is no 4 of 7 in the first gallery on this page. Let me dig through the Beinecke catalog but I'm guessing these are public domain for a number of reasons. jengod (talk) 01:50, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
- ARandomName123 and Jengod Thanks for the research!! My dilemma is that I want to use this photo in an article that I will be nominating for Featured Article soon. The last time I put an article thru the FA process, a photo taken in USA in 1915 was declared improper because it was not published before 1930. The copyright expert at FA says that photos before 1930 also need evidence that they were published. Best evidence, I suppose, is publication in a newspaper. But perhaps it would be sufficient if the photo was "published" in the photographer's catalog? I'm viewing the web page that Jengod link above, and it says "The Beinecke Library stewards sets of photographs of the march made by Underwood and Underwood and by Cyril T. Adams in 1917. The photographs are drawn from the personal papers and archives of Johnson and his wife, Grace Nail Johnson, in the library. Their papers also include scrapbooks that document the protest and its coverage in the media,..." That makes it sound like the photos were in a private collection, and perhaps _not_ published, which would be unfortuante. So, I'm back to looking for a newspaper that published the photo, I think? Noleander (talk) 01:58, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
- FWIW I believe Underwood & Underwood went out of business in the 1940s and never renewed any of their copyrights, so that could be a rabbit hole to follow down. Let me investigate Cyril. jengod (talk) 02:57, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
- No luck on C. T. Smith but just looking at the PDF compilation I feel sure that "no copyright stated" and "no copyright renewal recorded" should suffice to put these in public domain. There's a copyright helpdesk around here somewhere. Maybe they can advise? jengod (talk) 03:10, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library Digital Collection Call Number JWJ MSS 76 has a bunch of images from the March. They list the published/created date as the date of the March. I'm chaotic so I say "Yale says they're in the public domain bc they were published in 1917 so we can use them." I have no doubt it's what Yale, Langston Hughes, James Weldon Johnson, and the NAACP would want. Your local IP attorney may feel differently. jengod (talk) 01:57, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
- Jengod Thanks for the additional info. I'm with you 100% on thinking it _should_ be public domain. The obstacle I'm facing is the copyright expert in FA. I went thru this process 2 months ago with a photo from the same decade (see my notes above). Noleander (talk) 02:00, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
- Right. Well, the only thing I can offer is that The Crisis did publish two photos of the march back in 1917. Maybe those exist somewhere in high resolution and can be used? Good luck. jengod (talk) 02:22, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing out the pics published in The Crisis. I'm already using one of them in the body of the article, but neither is as great as the one I'm inquiring about ( https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1917_Silent_Parade_men_H.tiff ) ... my goal is to use the latter photo in the top InfoFox of the article. Baselios Sakralla of Aleppo
For Baselios Sakralla III of Aleppo
Hi, I have been trying to improve this article and I believe relevant information can be obtained from this. As you can see, Google books does not even offer a preview nor do they offer searching inside. Any help would be good!
P.S:- Name can be either Sakralla or Shakralla or Shukr Allah. It changes according to books. Pls let me know if neither of them works.
Thanks in advance, Warriorglance(talk to me) 06:29, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Warriorglance: Can you give us a better page range according to this table of contents please? – Doc Taxon • Talk • 10:03, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Doc Taxon Thanks! Based on the table, I would say it is pg.169-171 titled Shukr Allah. I don't know whether it appears in any other page, but this seems to be a reasonable choice. Do you perhaps have a way to search inside the book? If not, it's OK. Best, Warriorglance(talk to me) 11:43, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

Dorothea Gray in "Myrtou-Pigadhes: A Late Bronze Age Sanctuary in Cyprus"
For Dorothea Gray (the archaeologist, not the serial killer!) I just need the bibliographic details for Gray's contribution (chapter 11), incl. title and page numbers.
Thanks, UndercoverClassicist T·C 15:56, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- @UndercoverClassicist:
- From snippets on Google Books, it looks like the table of contents includes:
- Also from Google Books, the introduction on page 1 says:
- According to HathiTrust, "Gray" is mentioned on two unnumbered front matter pages, as well as pp. 1, 103, 104, 106, 108, and 110.
- Also, I'm not sure if you're already aware of it, but I came across this review:Kampman, A. A. (January–March 1960) [Leiden, November 1959]. "[review of] Joan DU PLAT TAYLOR, Myrtou - Pigadhes, A Late Bronze Age Sanctuary in Cyprus. [...]". BOEKBESPREKINGEN — CYPRUS. Bibliotheca Orientalis. 17 (1–2): 48–49. Google Books Y3z0VVuU4JsC. Internet Archive BiOr-17-1960. The review indicates that the first half of the chapter is titled "Its characteristics and affinities" and is written by Gray, while the second half is titled "The Cult and its Appartenances" and is written by Taylor. I've partially confirmed this with Google Books, but it seems to be rate-limiting me or something, which makes it hard to be sure... It looks like "b. THE CULT AND ITS APPURTENANCES. By J. du Plat Taylor" starts in the middle of p. 111.

A message from Moscow states that some sensation has been caused by the news that the War and Revolution Council have ordered the artillery general, Badjenny, together with three artillery divisions, to go to the Chinese frontier of Manchuria, and that the general left yesterday.

Daily Express (March 6, 1928)
A series of articles about Yugoslavia were published before March 16, 1928. The author of them was some guy named Geddy or something. I only have a Serbian transcription of his name. The guy writes that no minister was willing to receive him in audience and share a few words with him. He describes the ineffectiveness of Serbian bureaucracy. Some policemen took his passport and made him wait awhile in the waiting room. I want to use these article for United Kingdom–Yugoslavia relations.--TheDiaboloBoy (talk) 12:18, 26 January 2025 (UTC)

Swedish Journal article
Hi, I am looking to verify some facts for the Antistia maculipennis article. I have searched the Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL), but their online holdings only cover volumes 1-14. I have also searched the online catalogue of the National Library of Sweden (Kungliga biblioteket), but that particular volume is not available online. Since the library also holds these journals bound in a book format, are there any editors that have access to the National Library in Stockholm that could digitize/scan this article?

Allen Lowrie articles in Bulletin of the Australian Carnivorous Plant Society
For Allen Lowrie and rewrite of Taxonomy of Drosera
Hi folks, I'd be grateful if anyone (maybe in Australia?!) might be able to obtain copies of the above articles about Drosera by Allen Lowrie. I haven't managed to find the Bulletin in any of the usual online sources. Thank you! YFB ¿ 11:55, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
- Yummifruitbat: I can consult these on-site at State Library Victoria and hopefully take either photocopies or phone scans if they're in suitable condition. I don't know if I can get over there before next weekend though (the library will be closed on Good Friday). It looks like the journal ceased publication in 2003 so they may never have been digitised. — ClaudineChionh (she/her · talk · email · global) 12:32, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, that would be amazing! No particular hurry, the Drosera article is taking me a while to work through anyway, so next weekend would be great :) YFB ¿ 12:43, 12 April 2025 (UTC)

- Received, thank you! Unfortunately there was an error in the source from which I obtained the page ranges cited, which switched item 1 with a different article by Lowrie (a preview of one of his books). If you or anyone else are able to obtain vol. 7(4) again, I think the correct page range for item 1 may possibly be 72-73... but that might be wrong too. Sorry! YFB ¿ 10:15, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oops, I did get your email but was drowning in work (having public holidays on both Monday and Friday of this week meant I was pushing myself to finish things on Thursday night). I admit I didn't look through the rest of 7(4) and just blindly copied pages. - @JoJo Eumerus mobile, according to this table of contents available on Academia at this link [8], the pages which mention the Etna eruption of 1669 are pages 42-48. Several libraries in Italy and Spain have access to this book, so if you are nearby, you should be able to visit them for access. If not, you will have to request someone with access to these libraries to scan these pages and send them to you. Matarisvan (talk) 09:28, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

Looking for page numbers for cites from Thad Komorowski book used in Man's Best Friend (The Ren & Stimpy Show)
For Man's Best Friend (The Ren & Stimpy Show)...
Ref #2 is missing page numbers for the following paragraph, there is also some clarification needed who/what sold what to whom?:
- Originally, a scene where George Liquor leg-wrestles with Ren and Stimpy was going to be in this episode, but never got past the storyboards.[2][page needed] After the contract with Spümcø was terminated, Games Animation eventually produced it[clarification needed (the scene or episode?)] using archive audio and Rough Draft Korea's animation services. Ultimately, legal troubles with John Kricfalusi's ownership of George Liquor (they had sold him[clarification needed (who sold who?)] the rights to George at his firing) prevented them from ever airing the footage.[2][page needed]
Any help would be awesome.
Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 00:20, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Shearonink, I have a copy in e-book form.
...past the storyboards
, page 233....Games Animation eventually produced the scene using archive audio...
- Sentence beginning
Ultimately, legal troubles...
(pages 231-233 in source) would summarize the situation better along these lines: As the show transitioned to the Nickelodeon network, production slowed dramatically. Nickelodeon fired John Kricfalusi, claiming he was the reason the episodes were airing much later than expected. The terms of the legal settlement between Nickelodeon and Kricfalusi meant that Nickelodeon was unable to ever air the footage, as Kricfalusi had received the rights to George Liquor as part of the settlement.
- I would be happy to send you screengrabs of the relevant pages for the Kricfalusi v Nickelodeon section if you'd like them, and obviously please feel free to use any (or none) of my summary. StartGrammarTime (talk) 08:45, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for answering the call, greatly appreciated. I don't think a screen grab is necessary, so I went ahead and changed the text. Hope that's ok - Shearonink (talk) 05:14, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
