RE Engine (tunnetaan myös nimellä Reach for the Moon Engine) on videopeliyhtiö Capcomin kehittämä videopelimoottori.

Historia

Capcom suunnitteli MT Framework -moottorinsa seuraajaksi alkujaan Panta Rheitä, jota käytettäisiin Deep Down -pelissä. Peli julkistettiin vuonna 2013 ja sitä esiteltiin eri tilaisuuksissa, mutta siitä ei kerrottu tämän jälkeen. Tuottaja Yoshinori Ono sanoi vuonna 2019, että pelin alkuperäinen kehitystiimi oli lopetettu ja pelin kehitys oli virallisesti keskeytetty.

RE Engine sai alkunsa Resident Evil 7:n kehityksen aikana. MT Frameworkia pidettiin liian vanhanaikaisena pelin realistista maailmaa varten. Uuden pelimoottorin myötä pelin kehitysaikaa pystyttiin lyhentämään ja mukaan saatiin myös VR-yhteensopivuus 60 kuvan kuvataajuudella.

Lokakuussa 2026 Capcom kertoi haluavansa tehdä RE Enginestä "tekoälypelimoottorin" tuomalla mukaan useita teknologisia parannuksia. Tämä tapahtuu osana Capcomin REX-hanketta, jossa on tarkoitus päästä eroon AAA-pelien kehitysaikoja pidentävistä teknologisista ongelmista. Capcomin tavoitteena tulevaisuudessa on "luoda pelejä yhdessä tekoälyn kanssa".
