Etymologi

Navnet Flora stammer fra latin flos (genitiv floris) som betyr «blomst». I romersk mytologi var Flora gudinnen for blomster, vår og vekst.

Flora kan også være en feminin form av Florus, en kortform av Florentina og en kjæleform av Blancheflor og Florentia. Alle disse har betydningen knyttet til «blomst» eller «blomstrende».
