Winifred Phillips er en amerikansk komponist og forfatter. Hun har medvirka i blant annet God of War, Assassin's Creed III: Liberation og spillserien LittleBigPlanet. I 2025 mottok Phillips en Grammy Award for «beste partitur-lydspor for videospill og andre interaktive medier» for hennes bidrag til spillet Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord.

Karriere

Tidlig karriere

Fra 1992 til 2003 arbeidet Phillips som komonist, produsent og skuespiller i flere hørespill, først utgitt på National Public Radio Playhouse under tittelen Generations Radio Theater Presents og senere som Generations Radio Theater Presents: Radio Tales. Denne antologiserien adapterte klassiske verker fra amerikansk litteratur og verdenslitteratur, og mottok støtte fra National Endowment for the Arts. NPR skrev at serien «inneholdt en helhetlig musikkpartitur som er helt original og fullt integrert til teksten». Programmene ble regelmessig sendt som del av Radio Tales-serien på kanalen Sirius XM Book Radio.

Videospill

I 2004 bidro Phillips musikk til sitt første videospillprosjekt, God of War. Hun har komponert musikk til over 20 spill, blant annet LittleBigPlanet-serien, SimAnimals og Assassin's Creed III: Liberation.

Forfatterskap

Phillips er forfatteren av boka A Composer's Guide to Game Music, utgitt av MIT Press i mars 2014. Boka har vunnet flere priser, inkludert en National Indie Excellence Book Award, i tillegg til en bokpris for faglitteratur fra Nonfiction Authors Association.

Boka ble godt tatt imot av kritikere. Den ble utgitt på japansk i 2015 av O’Reilly Japan.
