General elections were held in Peru on 12 April 2026 with a run-off on 7 June 2026. The presidential elections elected the president and the vice presidents, while the congressional elections elected members of the Congress of Peru, which will return to being a bicameral legislature with a 60-seat Senate and 130-seat Chamber of Deputies. The last president, José Jerí, was removed from office in February 2026 by Congress.

Right-wing politician Keiko Fujimori of Popular Force and daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori was elected president after beating Left-wing candidate Roberto Sánchez.

Aftermath

First round

In the first round, right-wing politician Keiko Fujimori of Popular Force and daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori, placed first. Left-wing candidate Roberto Sánchez placed second, narrowly over far-right businessman Rafael López Aliaga. Because of delays in many polling stations, election authorities extended voting by one day for voters unable to cast their ballots. Following Sánchez's rise in votes later in the voting process, López Aliaga reportedly began a disinformation campaign against electoral authorities, accusing the process of fraud.

Run-off

Despite not all the votes being counted, the Wall Street Journal said that Fujimori had been elected president on June 11. Despite this Sánchez has not conceded, and has alleged fraud claiming he has instead won and would defend his “popular victory.” The next day, The Daily Telegraph and The Times also published articles saying that Fujimori was set to be elected president.

On 29 June 2026, after all the votes were counted, Fujimori was declared the winner, having beaten Sanchez by a 50.13% to 49.87% margin.
