A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story is a 1983 Christmas comedy film directed by Bob Clark and based on the 1966 book In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd, starring Melinda Dillon, Darren McGavin, and Peter Billingsley. It follows a young boy and his family's misadventures during Christmas in 1940.

As a 9-year-old boy living in Northwest Indiana between the late 1930s and early 1940s, Ralphie Parker wants an air rifle for Christmas but nobody wants him to have one because he'll "shoot his eyes out," as they all warn him.

On Christmas morning, his father secretly gives him the toy gun, and he plays with hit outside, but when he shoots the metal target he set up, it bounces off and knocks off his glasses. He lies about an icicle falling off the roof of the garage so he doesn't get into trouble.

That night, Ralphie goes to sleep with the gun by his side, as his adult self reflects that it was the best Christmas present he had ever received or would ever receive.
