The Alpine ibex (Capra ibex) is a species of wild goat. It lives in the mountains of the European Alps.
Male Alpine ibexes have very large, curved horns. Females also have horns, but they are much smaller. They have thick fur that helps them stay warm in the cold mountains.
They live in steep, rocky areas high above the trees. They are excellent climbers. They eat grass, leaves, and plants.
In the 19th century, people hunted the Alpine ibex too much, and they almost became extinct. Thanks to protection laws, there are now thousands of them living in the Alps again.
