Anticonvulsant

An anticonvulsant is a drug that is most commonly used to treat seizures andepilepsy. Anticonvulsants are also known as antiepileptic drugs or anti-seizure drugs.

Many anticonvulsant drugs have on-label and off-label uses for other physical conditions. For example, topiramate is often used off-label for the prevention of migraine headaches, and as an adjunct to weight loss.

Some anticonvulsant drugs are useful off-label for psychiatric uses, particularly as mood stabilizer medications.[source?]
