Area codes 864 and 821 are telephone area codes in the western third of the U.S. state of South Carolina, United States. They cover Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and twelve nearby counties.
Area code 864 was made on December 3, 1995, when area code 803 was split. Before that, 803 was the only area code in South Carolina for 48 years.
Area code 821 was added on top of 864 on August 19, 2024. Phone companies began using 821 numbers in November 2024. Because of this, people in South Carolina must dial all ten digits of a phone number.
