First powered heavier-than-air flight, December 17, 1903

The first trace of aviation goes back to when the kite was made. In the sixth century, Yuan Huangtou from China created the kite. Some primitive types of parachutes and gliders were also created in North Africa.

The modern age of aviation started on November 21, 1783, when the Montgolfier brothers flew in their hot air balloon. Airships followed. On December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers flew the first successful powered flight in an aeroplane which was heavier than air; their invention is known as the first successful powered aeroplane.

Military aircraft became important in World War I. In the 1910s airliners began carrying passengers. With time passing, more passenger airplanes were made that could carry more passengers. Soon, Jet engines began flying in fighter aircraft in World War II. Jet engines soon, were introduced to civilian transport, beginning with the de Havilland Comet, which had its first flight in 1949, and being introduced in 1952.
