Baal is the Semitic term meaning "lord" or "owner". It is viewed in the Bible in Christianity and Islam as a false god or rival to Yahweh. Its central rituals often involved sacrifices of babies. The name Beelzebub, a major demon in some Abrahmic religons, is associated with Baal. In Christianity, it was identified by the writers of the New Testament as Satan. In Islam, the Quran mentions that Prophet Elias (Elijah) warned his people against the worship of Baʿal.
