The Convention on Biological Diversity is a treaty for biodiversity created from signature at Rio Summit on 22 May 1992 and entred into force on 29 December 1993. Today in 2026, 196 countries have ratified this Convention.
There have been criticisms against CBD that the Convention has been weakened in implementation due to the resistance of Western countries to the implementation of the pro-South provisions of the Convention.
