Bulgarian Declaration of Independence

Bulgaria declared its independence from the Ottoman Empire on September 22, 1908 in the historic city of Veliko Tarnovo. Prince Ferdinand I read a royal manifesto severing the nation's final vassal ties to the empire and assumed the title of Tsar. This move made Bulgaria a fully sovereign state.
