A census-designated place (CDP) is a place that is identified by the United States Census Bureau as a place dedicated for statistical purposes. They are communities that do not have their own government, but are similar to incorporated places in other ways. The outlines that the Bureau chooses for CDPs are usually based on existing lines, but may be different than what is expected by people who live there.
