Hockey Night in Canada is a branding that is used for presentations of the National Hockey League (NHL) by CBC Sports. It started in 1931 on the CNR Radio network. It debuted on television on October 11, 1952. It ended on June 14, 2026. It has different segments during intermissions and between games including Don Cherry's Coach's Corner. In December 2026, the branding was revived and began to be used for Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) games.
On November 26, 2013, it was announced by the NHL that they had reached a 12-year, $5.2 billion deal with Rogers Communications for exclusive television and digital rights to all their national NHL broadcasts starting at the beginning of the 2014-15 season.
On June 14, 2026, the last Hockey Night in Canada game broadcast happened as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The program ended after 74 years without any acknowledgement before. Two days later on June 16, it was announced by both the CBC and Rogers that they had decided to not renew the sublicensing agreement. This was the end of NHL coverage on CBC Television after 74 years. The end received criticism from viewers who viewed the program as a staple of Canadian culture. It was also the end of free Saturday night hockey television. CBC head of public affairs Chuck Thompson stated that the brand name was still in their control.
On September 28, 2026, it was announced by the CBC that the revival of the Hockey Night in Canada banner will be used while airing Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) Saturday night games. On December 5, the first PWHL game under the banner will take place between Montreal Victoire and PWHL Hamilton.
