A coddler is a little pot-like container for cooking coddled eggs. It is usually made out of porcelain or metal.
The egg is cracked into the coddler, the lid gets closed with nearly boiling water, and then the egg gets slowly cooked.
They are also sometimes decorated with drawings/patterns like the one in the image.
