Scientists mostly studied dead frogs in museums, so they do not know what the frog does when it is alive. They think it lives the way other frogs in Cryptobatrachus live: in forests in the Andes Mountains, especially near waterfalls. Scientists have seen this frog 1,030 m (3,380 ft) above sea level.
Scientists think this frog has young the same way other frogs in Cryptobatrachus do: The female frog carries her eggs in a bag of skin on her back. Either the young come out as small froglets or she carries the tadpoles to water.
Scientists from the IUCN say they do not know if this frog is in danger of dying out.
