Father

A father with his son

A father (also called dad or daddy) is a male parent. Most human beings are born from a mother and a father. The father of a person's husband or wife is their father-in-law. Fathers determine the sex of their child through a sperm cell which either contains an X chromosome (female), or a Y chromosome (male).

Role of a father

A father often helps to take care of and raise a child. This can include providing food, shelter, education, and emotional support. In many families, fathers share responsibilities with mothers in raising children.

Fathers can influence a child's behavior, confidence, and social skills. Studies show that children with involved fathers often have better emotional and educational outcomes.

Biological and social father

A biological father is the male parent whose sperm helped create the child. A social father is a man who raises a child but may not be the biological parent, such as a stepfather or adoptive father.

In culture

In many cultures, fathers are seen as protectors and providers for the family. However, roles of fathers can be different depending on society and time period.
