The Demon King of the Sixth Heaven (第六天魔王, dairokuten-maō) is a very important demon in Buddhism. Oda Nobunaga claimed to be this demon.
Oda Nobunaga said this in a letter exchange with Takeda Shingen. Shingen signed his name as Tendai no Zasu Shamon Shingen (天台座主沙門信玄, lit. 'The head priest of the Tendai sect Monk Shingen'), Nobunaga signed back Dairokuten no Maō Nobunaga (第六天魔王信長, lit. 'Nobunaga the Demon King of the 6th Heaven'). Takeda Shingen did not have this title though. So some historians say Nobunaga said it to mock Shingen.
In Shinto he is identified with Omodaru and Ayakashikone and worshipped at Dairokuten Shrines
In the Yōtōden Oda Nobunaga is a demon. He is also a demon king in the videogames Nobunaga's Ambition. and Onimusha (2001) and Sengoku Basara (2005) and Samurai Warriors (2004).
