David Carl Crowley (/ˈkraʊli/; born May 14, 1986) is an American politician who is the Governor-elect of Wisconsin. He has been the 7th and current executive of Milwaukee County since 2020. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from 2017 to 2020. Crowley is the first African American to be Milwaukee County's top official and the youngest person elected to the office, having taken office at age 33. Crowley is the Democratic nominee for governor of Wisconsin in the 2026 election.

2026 Wisconsin gubernatorial election

Crowley announced his candidacy for governor of Wisconsin on September 5, 2025. His campaign was quickly supported by Mayor of Milwaukee Cavalier Johnson. Early during the campaign, Crowley struggled to get strong support and did not do well in opinion polling.

Crowley announced on July 8, 2026 that he was ending his campaign and supported Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez the following day. Days later, Rodriguez fired her campaign manager after finding out that her campaign had hundreds of thousands of dollars less cash on hand than expected. Rodriguez ended her campaign on July 17. Crowley re-entered the race on July 18 with Governor Tony Evers supporting him.

After Crowley re-entered the race, progressive State Assembly member Francesca Hong was leading the race. On August 11, in what was seen as an upset victory, Crowley beat Hong for the Democraitc nomination by a narrow margin of 0.48%.

In November 2026, Crowley defeated Republican U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany, making Crowley Wisconsin's first African-American governor.

Personal life

Crowley married his wife, Ericka, in 2016; they have two daughters together. Crowley is also the stepfather of a daughter from Ericka's last relationship.
