Eccellenza is the second level of the non-professional football in Italy and the fifth highest level. Now (2025–26 season) there are 475 clubs in 28 groups.
Eccellenza was born on 1991. In past the fifth level of football in Italy was the Promozione, but with this reform it became the sixth level like now.
This is a league with regional championships, so we should consider autonomous tournaments. There are a championship for each regions, but Piedmont and Aosta Valley have a only tournament:
All tournaments have own rules: for example, in Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Piedmont-Aosta Valley, Sicily, Tuscany and Veneto there are two groups (and Lombardy has got three).
Are promoted in Serie D 36 clubs: 28 winners of groups, 7 winners of national playoffs and the champion of Coppa Italia Dilettanti. All region selects the teams relegated in Promozione, but often are the last three or the loser of regional playouts.
