Everton is a small town in northeast Victoria, Australia. It is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Wangaratta and is located along the Great Alpine Road. According to the 2016 census, Everton and the nearby area had a population of 203 people.
The town was started because it was a good place to cross the flood plains of the Ovens River. It is thought the town was named by Dr. G. E. Mackay, an early settler, after Everton in England.
Visitors to Everton can enjoy the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail, which is a paved bicycle path that stretches 95 kilometers (59 miles) along old railway tracks. The area also has wineries and is part of the Victorian High Country, known for its beautiful scenery.
The Everton Post Office opened in 1876 but closed in 1965. Before that, there was an earlier post office that opened on May 8, 1873. This office changed its name several times: to Everton Station in 1876, Everton Rail around 1909, and Everton Upper in 1922. It also closed in 1965.
