The company was founded in 2014 by Alex Blumberg and Matthew Lieber. Later, Blumberg's spouse started working there and launched Gimlet Creative in 2016.
Then Gimlet Media raised $1.5 million in seed funding and later another $200,000.
In 2015, the company raised $6 million.
That year Gimlet Media launched a new kind of paid membership.
In 2017, the company received a $15 million investment. That year Gimlet Pictures was created.
In 2018, Gimlet started GimletFest.
In 2019, Spotify announced its entering to the agreement to acquire Gimlet.
