The Halabja massacre was a chemical attack on the Kurdish city of Halabja, Iraq on 16 March 1988. An estimated 5000 civilians were killed, and over 10,000 injured. The attack was part of the larger Anfal campaign, an effort to displace and kill Iraqi Kurds on a mass scale. The campaign was carried out by Ali Hassan al-Majid under Saddam Hussein's rule.
